Events For Swallow Doretti Owners: Here is a list of my initial ideas for 2015. Your suggestions or invitations would be most welcome and will prompt an update to the list: Wye Valley Run Date 2nd May This is organised by Chepstow Rotary Club as a charity fund raiser. Entry fee of around £25 gives you a good day out exploring the beautiful scenery in or around the Wye Valley with like minded classic car owners. Alison and I will be going on this. http://www.chepstowrotary.org.uk/page37.html Monmouth Steam and Vintage Show 3rd May This is the day after the Wye Valley Run so gives you the opportunity to make a Wye Valley weekend of it. Alison and I will be going on this. Get entry form here if you care to join us http://www.bordercountiesvintageclub.co.uk/page.asp?p=1 Donnington Historic Festival 2nd 3rd & 4th May. Three Dorettis went last year and enjoyed the weekend. http://www.doningtonhistoric.com/ for details of weekend The Marches Transport Festival 9th & 10th May – The event is set within the grounds of Ludlow’s historic castle. Ludlow itself is an interesting and historic town and well worth a visit. We had a great time last year. Four Dorettis have already booked their places for this year. NB Sunday is now fully booked http://www.marchestransportfestival.co.uk/ http://www.ludlowcastle.com/ Abergavenny Steam Rally 24th & 25th May I have booked in for one day with the Doretti and one in a Jaguar. If you plan to go with your Doretti please let me know which day you will attend and I will ensure that my Doretti is there also. http://www.abergavennysteamrally.co.uk/ Fougeres Rallye Brittany 29th to 1st June Two Swallow Dorettis one British and one French went in 2011 and had a great time. It is VERY well organised by French car enthusiasts with about 60% GB participants this year - possibly due to the strong pound. It is excellent value for money. It has a really impressive entry list – check out the “News” section of their website. It promises to provide excellent hospitality, great company and some interesting sights. Out of the ordinary pre 1960 classics are the staple diet and we fit into that category very well. Alison and I have booked our place with our Doretti again this year and would welcome fellow Doretti Owners. The start point is Monet’s garden at Giverny. From here it travels north to Honfleur and explores the areas around and between. http://www.rallye-fougeres.org/htm/programme.asp Or Pegasus Cotswold Tour 31st May Starts in Bristol and (not surprisingly) tours the Cotswolds. Mike and I took our respective Dorettis last year and had a great time. Get your entry form here: https://bristolpegasus.com/latest-news/ Classic Coombe Retro and Action Day Classic Coombe Circuit Saturday 20th June - Classic & Retro Action Day Castle Coombe If enough people express an interest in time I will book a Doretti stand otherwise I will join the Jaguars. Berkeley Castle Classic Meet Sunday 21st June Why not make a Cotswold weekend of it with these 2 adjacent events? Chiping Sodbury Cotswold Tour Sunday 28th June– Organised by the Chipping Sodbury Rotary Club – Gather in the wide market square with a diverse collection of classics. You will be waved off by the Mayor and enjoy the best that the Cotswolds has to offer. It is punctuated with a coffee and cake stop and finishes with an optional buffet banquet. http://www.rotaryribi.org/clubs/page.php?PgID=472023&ClubID=594 Silverstone Classic 25th to 27nd July Something of a spectacle. Historic Racing, Concerts and a full weekend of activity. We have booked to go in a non-Doretti this year due to lack of uptake by other Doretti Owners in the past. Silverstone Classic TR International Weekend 7th to 9th August – This event returns to The Three Counties Showground Malvern. £29 per person for a weekend ticket or £24 Sat only, £15 Sunday Only http://www.tr-registershop.co.uk/international-weekend2015-54-c.asp Three Cocks Vintage Rally Near Hay on Wye Powys 9th August – I went to this in 2013 and it was superb (2014 was unfortunately a washout). I will be going there again this year. For me it was the best event of 2013 - What a location, on the crest of a hill with 360 degree views of superb mid-Wales countryside. Wherever you are coming from it is fantastic drive to get there! Classic cars, Steam Engines, Autojumble and much more. It coincides with the last day of TR International. SAE for FREE Tickets gets my vote! http://www.vintage-society.org/ Goodwood Revival 11th to 13th September – 3 Dorettis made it last year A club invitation would be much appreciated if anyone happens to know Lord March. – We would be able to offer an interesting and period display for the infield area. http://www.goodwood.co.uk/revival/welcome.aspx Angouleme Circuit des Remparts 18th to 20th September – Refer to hyperlink. We went there in the Doretti in 2011. There is a very good but expensive tour publicised on the website – too expensive for me but a Charente based friend of mine is in touch with the local organiser of an alternative and very friendly tour within the financial means of mere mortals. I hope to be there but this depends on the plans of our ex-pat friends. http://www.circuit-des-remparts.com/ Castle Coombe Classic Action Day 3rd October An excellent Historic Race Event which operates on a very low key basis. We went in 2014 and had a great day. Morges British Car Day 3rd October On Lake Geneva Switzerland. I could be persuaded to go there if others were interested. http://www.british-cars.ch/index_a.html NEC Classic Motor Show 13th to 15th November – We will once again have a presence at this the National Classic Car Show. To be held at the National Exhibition centre with excellent transport links via M42, Birmingham International airport and a mainline rail links. http://www.necclassicmotorshow.com/ These are just a few ideas circulated in an attempt to prompt some shared activities. If you let me know what is happening in your area I am happy to add these to the list and circulate. Nigel Wilcox – 07989 878068 [email protected]
