ALEŠ VODOPIVEC, U.D.I.A., GAŠPER MEDVEŠEK, U.D.I.A. We wanted to create a place to stay, a shelter for everyone during day and night. A place that won't be used just for sleeping but also for spending some free time in it. The tube shelter combines three main characteristics of an apartment: it gives shelter from the weather and it is a space where we can eat, sit, socialize and sleep. It also provides artists with a space for exhibitions. It is designed so that it can be extended, depending on the needs and location. We can also adjust the amount of openings, which are necessary for pleasant staying (especially in the summer). We chose recycled cardboard tubes as our material, they can bear relatively high loads, are waterproof when impregnated and can easily be joined by steel bolts and nuts. The construction is placed under a roof at the location. WHAT IS THE TUBE SHELTER? WINDSCREEN (EXHIBITIONS) SITTING AND EATING SLEEPING HOW WE DO IT AND WHY WE DO IT THIS WAY? We can adjust the amount of openings, which are created in the building process, by cutting out desired parts of the tubes before joining them with steel bolts and nuts and forming the final structure. The openings interact with the outside light to create a pleasant atmosphere within the structure and serve as windows to the outside world. We can adjust the construction to the location: the height of the construction provides the user with privacy and multiple view angles. + The construction can be extended. DETAILS AND MATERIALS The carboard tubes can be joined by steel bolts and nuts. SECTION:
