Call for Indo-French Networking Programme in Water
Considering the strongurge of the French and Indian governments to reinforcescientific
collaborationto address prevalent and emerging challengesin water, the French Embassy
inIndia and the Indian Department of Science & Technology (DST) have joined hands for
Indo-French Scientific Networking Programme in the field of water. This networking
programme will be implemented by the Indo French Centre for the Promotion of Advanced
Research (CEFIPRA). CEFIPRA has launched this Call to invite joint proposals from the
Indian and French Researchers of Academia and Industry. The networking projects will be
funded for a period of two years. Details are given in Annexure1.
Objectives of the programme are:
Form dedicated networks of Indian and French research groups & industries to address
identified water issues.
Strengthen and expand the quality and potential of water research in both countries by
building greater interaction between France and India.
Build stronger relationships between industry and academic communities in France
and India coupled with better knowledge exchange, to form the basis for future
collaborations, research projects, and joint endeavor related to Water technology,
research & innovations.
Priority fields:
Proposals in the following areas are encouraged:
 Waste water treatment (Industrial/ Domestic);
 Natural water treatment systems.
Proposals in line with the DST’s Technology Mission“WAR for Water”and/or the goals of the
IFWN (www.ifwn.org) are particularly encouraged.
Eligibility criteria:
1. The proposals must includeat least TWO, and no more than FIVE partners on the Indian
side and similarly TWO and no more than FIVE partners on the French side. At least one
industrial partner and one academic partner must be included in each project. Academic
partners should have permanent position in an Indian or French University / R & D
institution.
2. One Indian coordinator and one French coordinator must be identified from Indian and
French academic partnering institutions and clearly mentioned in the proposal for further
communication.
3. Emphasis will be given to projects promoting students and involvement of young
researchers.

Annexure 1:
Funding Conditions:
1. The duration of the supported project is for 24 months.
2. The support will cover the costs of networking activities such as:
meetings (e.g. international and domestic travel, subsistence, local organisation
support), workshops, seminars,
student mobility
and fellowships(international travel, travel insurance,
accommodation, living expenses) for short-term scientific exchanges (maximum up to
3 months),
thematic schools,
publications and dissemination activities.
Indian component of the project may fund fellowship of maximum one research
student per project.
3. The number of participants and their research contribution should be appropriate for the aim
of the project and must be reasonably balanced in terms of each country’s participation (on
effort, contribution and budget). Each Indo-French networking project should clearly
demonstrate an added value from working together.
4. The expected total budget for the call is about 160 000 € / 1 crore Rs to fund up to two or
three projects for a maximum duration of two years.
5. At the end of the project, the project partners will submit an outcome report with
recommendations for future Indo-French work in their field. This report will be published on
www.dst.gov.in, www.cefipra.org, and www.ifwn.org.
Evaluation of Proposals:
The submitted proposals will be independently peer reviewed in the first phase from French and
Indian side. The PIs maybe invited for presentation before the respective committees. In the second
stage of evaluation, a committee comprising of representatives and / or experts nominated from both
the DST and the French Embassy, and the Director of the CEFIPRA will jointly select the proposals
for funding based on scientific evaluation of both the sides done in first phase.
Proposal Structure:
1. Title of the networking project.
2. Abstract (half page max).
3. The two coordinators (one French, one Indian) must be indicated. Moreover, names &contact
details (Address & email-id) of the partners from France and India (minimum 4 and maximum 8
partners in total) must be provided.
4. Coordinators must provide details of completed and ongoing nationally funded projects in the
water / relevant sector.
5. Brief CVs for each project partner in the given format with a list of up to five relevant publications
within the last five years (max. 1 page each) and the list of joint publications with partners, if any.
6. Work plan of the project (max. 5 pages) including:
Objectives of the networking project;
Background and present state of the art in the field;
Substantive description of the planned activities, emphasizing their relevance;
Timeline for the planned activities;
Description of each partner’s contribution to the planned activities;
Added value of the proposed bilateral collaboration;
Expected gains and potential impact of the project.
7. Requested Budget (please provide details of expenses) with justifications.
8. A Letter of Agreement between the participating groups for IP rights and confidentiality.
