Introducing CORPER ACTION FUND
(Defining the ‘WHAT?’)
"Every year, about 350,000 university graduates are deployed
for national service , under the National Youth Service Corps
(NYSC) programme in Nigeria. These youths are posted to the
nooks and crannies of the Country on a mission to serve their
Nation. Many of these youths are truly desirous to serve, with
the best of their abilities, resources and talents. However, they
are, many times hindered by a lack practical know-how and
availability of resources. HOPE sought to bridge this gap".
We started the Corper Action Fund with a simple goal- to
empower Corp members who have identified potential socialimpact projects with financial grants to enable them meet the
need.

Eligibility:
To be eligible for the Corper
Action Fund, you must be a
currently serving Corper.
Procedure:
The procedure for receiving
the CAF empowerment are
illustrated below:

1. Application; First, Corpers will be required to
apply online. Through that application, the
Corpers introduce themselves, where they are
serving and the social-impact opportunity they
have identified.
2. Selection; Next, all applications are passed to a
board whose job it is to ascertain which projects
deserve the Corper Action Fund. Successful
applications will then be notified and awarded
3. Implementation:; Awardees commence their
project. Project mentors are assigned to all
awardees. The responsibility of the project
mentors would be to monitor the progress and
offer guidance where needed.
4. Reporting; Project report, Log books and pictures
of project commissioning are sent to us.

Project Objective:
To encourage and empower Corp members to
execute change projects in their local
communities.

Organisational Objective 1 :
This is one of the ways HOPE seeks to influence
social change by enlisting, enlightening, and
empowering more people to be change agents

Organisational Objective 2:
H.O.P.E seeks to create an ecosystem of
support for change agents, and running CAF is
one way we would do it.

C.A.F 2014
THE REPORT
In the year 2014, we decided to ‘test run’ the
Corper Action Fund project, launching its maiden
edition on the 20th of May 2014. About twenty
five applicants (NYSC Corpers) submitted project
proposals, five of whom were selected and
awarded grants of Fifty Thousand naira (N50,000)
each towards the implementation of their
proposed and approved public service projects in
their places of primary assignment.
THE SELECTION:
We sent all application to the CAF 2014 Judges
who selected the best five projects. The most
reoccurring projects were awarded the grant.

IT ALL STARTED WITH A WIND
STORM- Kelechi Ememe’s CAF STORY
There was a windstorm at Yabo Local
Government
in
Sokoto,
(Kelecho
Ememe’s place of
primary assignment)
which blew the roof
and ceiling of an
entire
classroom
block at the school
were he was serving,
leaving 23 students
with various injuries.
Worse still, after the
incident, was the lack of first-aid or a health-bay
that could tend to the injured students.
Responding to this, Kelechi decided to embark
on a mini- health bay project.

He reached out to the school
administrators to request for an unused
space, and with the help of H.O.P.E built
a health-bay with the help of the
N50,000 grant he received from HOPE.
The commissioning of the project was
well attended by representatives of the
NYSC and the Yabo L.G office.

SELF DEVELOPMENT CLUB

Abraham Owoseni came up with an ingenious idea to create a well furnished
self development club room at VETLAND SENIOR GRAMMER SCHOOL, Agege.
The SDCR is to be a conducive environment for future talents to be groomed
and nurture, by exposing them to helpful materials and teachings on capacity
development.

MEET OLUMESE EIGBE- The corper who
solved the water problem
Olumese Eigbe set out to install a portable
water supply system in his place of primary
assignment. In the course of examining the
project’s feasibility, it was discovered that the
water in the well was not sufficient due to
some debris blocking the water flow at the
bottom of the well.
In order to tackle this challenge, he had to
hire some well diggers to dig out the debris
and install a filter which will help prevent the
well from accumulating debris in the future.
Materials purchased for the project were;
1 1000L water tank – N14000
0.5 horsepower pumping machine – N23000
PVC pipes – N5260
Rope (one roll) – N1500
Fittings – N3810
Pvc gum – N1000
On Monday 8th of September, the last phase of the
project kicked off with the laying of the blocks and was
completed on the 10th of September 2014.
