BUILDING TRAINING CONSULTING www.earthbuildingsolutions.com.au [email protected] Phone 0408 425 855 or 0468 681 631 Delivering practical and sustainable building alternatives out of Earth Building with Mudbricks Workshop – 16th & 17th May 2015 There are some truly magnificent mudbrick buildings in Australia mainly along the eastern seaboard where suitable clay/loam subsoils exist. Many examples can be found in the Shoalhaven. Not only are they safe, comfortable, healthy and durable, they are aesthetically beautiful and desirable. Earth homes are the centrepiece of sustainable living. If you ask someone who lives in a mudbrick house what they think of their home they will tell you it is warm in winter and cool in summer. The comfort is predictable and balanced and the building automatically sets thermal comfort relative to time of day or season. Research at The University of Adelaide (Soebarto) shows earth homes on average use half the energy of conventional homes. People will also comment on how quiet it is inside and how the building has a solid feel. This solid feel, comfort and quiet are all due to those thick mass walls. Mudbricks are an excellent choice for buildings in bushfire prone areas. Mudbrick walls 250 thick have in excess of a 4-hour fire rating and can be built in the highest BAL (Bushfire Attack Level) – FZ (flame zone). Building with mudbricks is easy, creative and fun. If you wish to use mudbricks to build yourself or someone else a dream home, or you want to learn about mudbrick for any other reason, come along and learn from knowledge and experience gained through over 30 years specialising in mudbrick construction.
