2014-2015 Introduction to Literature 4th Quarter Reading

2014-2015 Introduction to Literature 4th Quarter Reading AssignmentRevision
You must read two books from the list provided by Mrs. McCray. To evaluate your performance
on your assigned reading, I require the following assessments for both books. Total Points: 135
pts. Book 1 and 75pts. Book 2
1. Write eight (8) journal entries for any character of the book in which you reveal not
only events, but also the character’s feelings and responses to those events. Each entry
must be at least one full paragraph in length. Your information must be typed. (25pts)
2. Compile a dictionary of some of the difficult words from the book. Your 4th quarter
reading dictionary must define each word. Your dictionary should be organized like a real
dictionary (alphabetical order, pronunciation keys, part of speech and a sentence using
the word correctly for each entry). If you use a sentence from the book make sure to
include the page number. Your dictionary doesn’t have to be colorful! It can be typed.
However, if you choose not to type it, it must be in a book. Your dictionary must have at
least 25 words from the book. (35 pts)
3. Write a poem or song about the book. Warning: this project must be very well-written
and then recited or performed in front of the class. The performance must be pretty good,
as well. Typed Copy (25 pts)
4. The final assessment for your 4th quarter reading assignment will take the form of an
advertising poster that you create for each of the titles. This poster should include a visual
representation of the book (please avoid simply cutting and pasting a picture of the
book’s cover from the internet) the title, the author, and a one paragraph review of the
book either recommending it as a read for your peers or suggesting that they steer clear.
I’m looking for creativity, neatness, presentation and qualities of effective writing. Your
finished poster must be at least one-half a standard poster board in size. (50 pts)
5.
Attention!!!! You only need to do steps 3 and 4 for book 2!
6. Place items 1-3 in a binder, book, or folder.
Book One Due Date: April 30, 2015 (Book from assigned list)
