TOPICS&
Indiana’s original landscape was a mix of deciduous forest types interspersed with wetlands and prairie
openings. This mosaic provided a biologically productive landscape that harbored an impressive diversity of
species. Managing the landscape to restore and maintain this biological richness is the goal of natural area
managers and restoration ecologists. This conference will reacquaint participants with the primeval Holocene landscape of Indiana, discuss strategies for restoration and maintenance of this diversity, and highlight
examples of this work from different areas of the state.
