This month we will have more musical talent with Judy Brown and
Barb Brown who play the accordion and will sing hymns for us.
We also would like to thank
“The Rambling Locals” for bringing
their karaoke machine in so we
could sing along.
We celebrated Dairy Month with
a good old fashioned ice cream
social which was a huge hit as you
can tell by the pictures of happy
faces in this newsletter! We had all
the toppings including homemade
chocolate fudge, caramel, crushed
Oreo cookies, strawberries, nuts,
whipped cream and cherries!
Melissa (and our residents, Mary
Jane, Gladys, Patti, Al, Jerald and
John who helped supervise) tackled the job of planting our flowers.
The flowers are thriving and look
lovely. Take the time to stop at our

To begin with, a huge thank you
to all those who have responded
to our wish list. We have received
numerous donations of nail care

Rehabilitation Success Story at Edgerton
Prior to her admission to Edgerton
Care Center, Jackie N. lived at
home with her husband and was
independent with all her functional
mobility. She was walking without
an assistive device, getting herself dressed, cooking, driving, and
operating a family golf cart business. But then she started having
increased back pain, weakness,
and falls at home. She found out
she needed back surgery. She
was admitted to Edgerton Care
Center after her laminectomy for
post-surgery physical and occupational therapy, which she received
5 times per week for 2-3 hours
each session.
Initially, Jackie needed maximum
assistance with all her dressing and
transfers, and was unable to ambulate. Jackie could not stand and

couldn’t tolerate sitting upright in
her wheelchair for very long. She
also had arm and leg weakness,
especially in her right leg.
By December of 2014, Jackie had
met her goals in therapy and was
discharged back to her home. After
successful therapy at ECC, Jackie
was able to dress independently,
sit up in her wheelchair for more
than 8 hours per day, walk about 50
feet with her walker, and transfer
independently. Her arm and leg
strength also improved!
At home, Jackie received home
health therapy and continued to
gain independence. She started
preparing light meals, did some
laundry, and walked without an assistive device I her kitchen.
In February 2015, Jackie returned
to Edgerton Care Center for outpatient physical therapy. She continued to work on balance, walking
and strength. Jackie completed
her outpatient therapy on 5/7/2015
and returned home.
Today, Jackie is independently
walking with her walker and her
cane. At times, she even walks
without any assistive devices!
She is cooking meals and doing
laundry too. She has returned
to driving to her favorite local
places, including the grocery
store. Jackie is even happily back
to work, managing the family golf
cart business. Jackie never gave
up and met all her goals! She
is truly a THERAPY SUCCESS
STORY at Edgerton Care Center!
Congratulations, Jackie!

Don’t ask her about car trouble though on the way back from New

her and a special resident laughing till he cried.

Michelle is going to be here awhile as she enjoys her co-workers,
her residents and all the good times. Thank you, Michelle!
“The first time I tried to apply here, I had a heck of a time finding
the place,” said Michelle. “I drove around and around and then was
told the sign wasn’t changed yet. At the end of all that I got the job
so HOOT, HOOT.”
“Sometimes the stress of this job gets so heavy, I wonder why
I stay. But then when I see the outcome of my hard work, it’s all
worth it and the residents love what I have done,” Michelle said.
