AIRLINE ATV RIDERS APRIL 2015 Airline ATV Riders Meeting Minutes April 16, 2015 Opening: The regular meeting of the Airline ATV Riders was called to order at 7:09pm on April 16th, 2015, by Arthur Weymouth, club president, who lead the Pledge of Allegiance. The printed report of the March 2015 meeting of 103 regular members and 22 business sponsors was accepted. Old Business: New trail maps are in the works. We have a cost of $50 to have the old map digitized and updated with our new trails. Trails from the other clubs will need to be done as well. We now have to work out where to get them printed and the final cost of the printing to establish the sale price for the maps. Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the previous meeting were unanimously approved as distributed. Treasurer’s Report: Paul’s report was accepted as read. Trail Master’s Report: Phil discussed the trail conditions now as wet and closed. He is looking for people to help doing the trail condition run once they are opened to ascertain their condition and which ones need trees removed as well as starting to line up our maintenance schedule for the year. He also discussed the proper use of a chainsaw, and to always wear protective gear such as chaps, gloves, full face mask, and a hard hat. He also said that he was researching on where to obtain a good safety class for chainsaw use, but nobody offers them any more. He mentioned that he was still looking for a way to access Pickerel Pond from the County Road. The replacement bridge for Beaver Bridge was discussed. There is a trailer frame we can purchase for $800.00 that includes the price to move it to the bridge site as well as setting it in place. There was also discussion about getting the wood for the frame and decking. The wood will either be pressure treated or un-planed hemlock. New Business: The 2015 ATV Maine banquet meeting will be Saturday, the 18th, at Jeff’s Catering. The Old Town Memorial Day parade on May 25th was discussed. We have new club signs that were made and donated to the club by Karen’s Signs to be used on our booth. More details about how many machines will be needed, as well as where we will meet will be given later, once they are worked out. Membership Report: Cheryl, the membership director, was absent at this meeting. Hospitality: Cindy discussed donating $100 towards the Old Town Memorial Day parade. The amount was put to a vote and passed. There was discussion on setting up a booth at the event. There will be fund raising ride for Camp Capella to the wind mills in Lincoln on June 27th. Those wishing to go must meet at the club meeting place to convoy to Armand Bouchard’s house which will be the trail head. More details will follow. Member of the Year was voted on, for the year of 2014. The choices were Richard Belanger, Armand Bouchard, and Phil Flagg. After tabulation of the ballots it was announced that Armand Bouchard was the winner. Congratulations Armand! 2 AIRLINE ATV RIDERS APRIL 2015 Meeting Minutes, continued Hospitality (cont’d.) Door Prizes were won by Roger Morin, Richard Newey, and Warren Young. Safety: There was one reported ATV fatality in March in New Hampshire. By doing so, you might stand a chance of getting it in the shop for any necessary repairs and back out before next September, A few things to look at include: 1. Tires. Are they still round on all sides, or very flat on the bottom? Is that piece of wood still sticking out of the side wall? Have they got more cracks in them than a broken mirror? Might be a good idea to get them replaced. 2. Rims. Are there any cracks, especially in the spokes around the hubs? Are there any dents or gouges in the edge of the bead areas. These will cause those slow leaks that are driving you nuts. 3. Ball joints. Are they still tight without a lot of movement up and down. If there are grease fittings, when was the last time they were greased? 4. Tie rod ends. Are they still fairly tight without a lot of movement? Or are they still held together with that piece of wire you used to get it out of the woods last year? 5. Shocks. Are they still firmly attached to the machine and axle? Are there any fluid leaks, or do they just bottom out with a hard thud. New ones might just improve your ride and control. 6. Lights. Do they all work? Or do you have to bang on the housing to get them to come on? 7. Brake lines. Are they intact without and cuts or splits? Is there any fluid in the reservoir on the handle bar? 8. Brakes and rotors. Are the discs still there, or have they worn away and dropped off? Are the calipers still in good shape and not leaking? If you spent last season “coasting” to a stop, maybe now would be a good time to pay some attention to them. 9. Skid plates. Most machines have a steel plate mounted to the underbody to prevent damage to un-important things like engines, gear boxes, gas tanks, etc. Some also act as mounts for that snow plow on the front that seems to be there more than half the year. These are normally held in place with “U” bolts that go over the frame and down through the plate. They take a real beating going over logs and rocks and might need replacement. 10. Body work. Are the fenders still intact? Or do they kind of flap in the breeze? Have all of the equipment racks still have all their bolts, and are they tight? 11. Mirrors. You do have them, right? If you don’t, or if they’re broken, now’s a good time to take care of them. Let’s you see how close that bear is! 4 AIRLINE ATV RIDERS APRIL 2015 Please support, shop and recommend our Business Members.
