DRYER & DRYER VENT CLEANING
If a fire occurs, it will most often start within the drum of the dryer and be fuelled by the lint that has accumulated in the
dryer cabinet. Over the past nine years Ontario has averaged 213 fires, eight injuries, and $1.9 million in losses per year
due to household dryers as an ignition source. Maintenance/Installation Deficiency’ was the cause of approximately 1/3 of
the dryer fires.
Dryer fires caused by lack of maintenance (i.e. lint accumulation in ducts, improper venting, use of plastic ducting, etc.) is
generally preventable if you have your interior cabinet and exhaust system cleaned out once every 3-5 years (Fire Marshal
recommends every 2 - 3. Dryer lint is so flammable that a recent issue of Popular Mechanics magazine stated that
campers should take a bag of dryer lint with them on their camping excursions as it is the perfect tinder for starting fires!
We also have a 30-45 minimum time allowance for this service!
IN-SUITE DUCT CLEANING
NADCA (National Air Duct Cleaning Association) recommends that residential duct cleaning be carried out every 3-5 years.
What tends to accumulate in your heating and air conditioning ducting is dust, dead skin cells, pet dander, fibreglass
insulation from the fan coil or heat pump lining etc.
Quite often we also find drywall dust from the original build no matter how old the building is. You’re in-suite ducting is
installed before the drywall is put up and sanded so it tends to settle in your ducting and will slowly bleed out over time. If
you are experiencing more than an acceptable amount of dust etc this service is for you.
Using our high-powered HEPA vacuums and specialized air tools, GTS technicians will remove the debris from your
ductwork to greatly improve the air quality and cleanliness in your space. Bye bye, dust bunnies.
BATHROOM FAN & VENT CLEANING
Bathroom exhaust airflow, if constricted by debris, can significantly inhibit the removal of humid air and odors from the
bathroom. If humid air is not properly exhausted, the vapor condenses on bathroom surfaces and provides a growth
environment for biological contaminants such as mold and mildew.
GTS Services will clean the exhaust vent, blower fan blades and motor and other related ductwork. This service will also
increase the systems efficiency and help save energy and money.
MAGNETIC IN-CEILING LINT TRAP
A lint trap is the most neglected part of a condo laundry dryer ventilation system, largely because it is difficult to clean.
Since it is not cleaned regularly, the accumulated lint poses fire hazards. Furthermore, if a lint trap is not clean, the dryer
cannot work efficiently.
Because of its design, the magnetic in-ceiling lint trap is not only easy to clean it also keeps your laundry room free of dryer
dust as it creates a perfect seal with the lint box because of its magnetic cover.

"Lint can literally get trapped everywhere inside a dryer", Failure to clean out lint traps is the main cause of dryer fires, A
blocked vent or exhaust pipe blocks hot air from release, turning the highly combustible lint into a fire hazard
“Electric dryers can use more energy than a new efficient refrigerator, dishwasher and clothes washer combined,”
Cleaning your lint trap regularly and having the complete system cleaned out every 2 to 3 years will reduce energy costs
and add life to your appliance and exhaust fan.

SAFE USE OF HOUSEHOLD CLOTHES DRYERS

It is strongly recommended that plastic ducting not be used. Plastic ducts often collapse causing blockage and lint build up within the dryer. This
type of plastic ducting can ignite or melt and will not contain a fire within the dryer.

Some designs of clothes dryers are prone to lint build up if the exhaust is located at the top of the dryer. In this case, the lint has to move against
gravity which increases the likelihood that it will accumulate within the duct or settle between the rotating drum and the dryer cabinet. Therefore,
the vents and metal ducts should be inspected and cleaned on a regular basis.
It is extremely important to remove lint that accumulates between the rotating drum and the dryer cabinet during the normal operation of the
clothes dryer. The inside of the dryer cabinet should be cleaned periodically by a qualified individual (i.e., an appliance repair technician) every
two to three years, or more frequently, depending upon usage.


Clothes dryers that have long metal ducts with several bends containing in-line fans and filters require additional attention. This type of venting,
which is often found in apartments, uses in-line fans as the ducts may exceed manufacturers’ installation specifications with several bends. To
avoid lint accumulation in the bends of the ducts, the in-line fans must be operational and on during the drying cycle. Also, it is preferable that the
in-line fans be dedicated only to the clothes dryers. Cleaning of these in-line filters should be conducted frequently
