Announcement
The West Valley School District invites candidates to apply for elementary teacher
positions at Orchard Center Elementary. Two positions available: 3rd Grade Teacher
and 4th/5th Grade Combination Teacher. Both are 1.0 FTE positions

Terms of Employment
A combination of education and experience are required, including:
 Current Washington State Teaching Certificate with an Elementary endorsement
required.
 Understand Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements.
 Demonstrate mature behavior and ability to use sound judgment in working with
parents, students, staff, and community.
 Training and/or experience with computers preferred.
Professional /Personal Qualifications
 Possess a high degree of energy.
 Be honest and trustworthy.
 Demonstrate the ability to create an effective educational climate for students
and parents.
 Possess high moral and ethical standards.
Performance Responsibilities
 Teach reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health,














physical education, and music to all students in a classroom, utilizing appropriate
learning activities and course of study adopted by the Board of Education.
Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and
administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, and provide individualized and
small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each
student.
Demonstrates and awareness of common core state standards.
Demonstrate knowledge and experience in various forms of assessment including
student self-assessment, formative assessment, portfolios and anecdotal recoreds.
Translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available
time for instruction.
Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a
functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and
prepare progress reports.
Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss
students’ progress and interpret the school program.
Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in
assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive
displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities
provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working
day.
Administer group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program.

Orchard Center Elementary
Orchard Center Elementary is a wonderful school located in the West Valley
School District and was a recipient of a grant funded by the Bill and Melinda
Gates Foundation. Along with working toward the goals of personalization,
purposeful learning and cultural enrichment, the staff at Orchard Center is
actively involved in the school reform process. The staff will consist of 22
certificated and 12 classified staff including a counselor/psychologist, two
counseling paraprofessionals, a speech/language pathologist, a consulting teacher,
and a school nurse. Orchard Center invites parent involvement in all aspects of
the academic and activity offerings throughout the school year
West Valley School District
The West Valley School District encompasses 25 square miles and is
comprised of one preschool/ECEAP program, four elementary schools, two
middle schools, one high school and two non-traditional high schools. The
District enrollment is approximately 3,800 students. On February 10, 2015,
the patrons of the district passed a three-year Maintenance & Operations
Levy and a Technology Levy to address the technology needs identified in
the district’s strategic plan.
The strengths of the district are its supportive parents and community,
outstanding staff, caring board of directors, and responsive and respectful
students. The staff is experienced, professional and highly motivated to help

School District is located eight miles east of downtown Spokane. Spokane is a

and community colleges (Gonzaga University, Washington State University, and
