About us
AMEXCAP is a non-profit association whose mission is

in Mexico. The Association was created in 2003 and
currently represents 75 Private Equity, Venture Capital,
Real Estate and Infrastructure funds that actively invest
in Mexico and over 35 advisory service companies
involved in the areas of corporate law, tax advisory,
financial services, and consulting.
AMEXCAP’s members have raised a cumulative $20.5
billion USD over the past fourteen years and have
invested in a broad range of sectors such as real estate,
media and telecom, wholesale and retail trade, financial
services, healthcare, transportation, business services,
infrastructure, and manufacturing.
Our Mission
The AMEXCAP works under following objectives:
• Developing and strengthening the relationships with institutional investors.
• Generating the largest number and frequency of transactions.
• Developing and maintaining relations with authorities and regulators,
lobbying with them to improve the competitiveness of the industry.
• Promoting and disseminating the Private Equity and Venture Capital
industry at national and global levels.
In order to carry out these objectives, identify key challenges and propose initiatives
which will encourage the development of the industry, AMEXCAP’s Board of Directors
is composed of a President, a Secretary and three main Committees:

• Proposed changes to improve the Mexican Securities Market Laws (Ley del Mercado de Valores)
and the creation of the “The Investment Promotion Corporation” (Sociedad Anónima Promotora
de Inversión) (“SAPI”).
• The “Private Equity Investment Trust” (Fideicomiso de Inversión en Capital Privado) known as
FICAP, investment structure articles Arts. 227 y 228 of the LISR.
• Regulatory changes that allow insurance companies to invest in Private Equity Funds in Mexico.
• Debt Market Programs for companies (Ministry of Economy).
• Proposed improvements to the CONSAR for the AFORES’ investment pre evaluation of managers
and reporting.

• “Inside Mexico’s PE Market”: This study provides an overview of the Mexican PE Industry,

• “Inside Mexico’s VC Market”: This report profiles the VC Industry in Mexico and provides statistical details, reviews the characteristics of Mexican VC firms and examines opportunities moving forward.
• “Inside Mexico’s RE and Infrastructure Market”: This study provides an overview of the
private equity investments within these two industries, statistics about fundraising, investing, exits,
as well as market highlights and opportunities.
• “Mexico PE/VC Environment Update”: The paper gives an overview of the important
structural reform changes promoted by President Enrique Peña Nieto, including reforms of the
financial, tax, energy, telecommunications, education and political systems.
• “Venture Capital Fund Model for Mexico”: In 2010, AMEXCAP published the first edition
of this book, followed by a second edition in 2011 and a third edition yet to be published in 2014.
• “Investments of Real Estate and Infrastructure Funds in Mexico”: In collaboration
with Deloitte for the years 2013 and 2014 to be published.
• “Impact of Private Equity at Companies in Mexico”: In collaboration with KPMG we
assembled the best success cases in 2013 and 2014, highlighting the benefits for companies to
partner with Private Equity firms.
• “Private Equity in Mexico: Primed for Significant Growth” and “Myths of the Energy
Reform”: Studies conducted in collaboration with Bain & Co in 2012 and 2014 respectively.
• “Entrepreneurial Ecosystem in Mexico”: A research study conducted in conjunction with
INADEM, EY and IPADE that after a thoughtful analysis and focus groups with all industry players,
aims to provide suggestions to improve the overall landscape.
The Association has organized and developed Private Equity programs with leading Mexican Academic Institutions among them:

Eligibility and Requirements for private equity firms applying for “Associate in Development”
Eligibility:





Applies only to Venture Capital firms with clear strategy stated on the PPM (does not apply
to growth capital)
Only firms in formation raising their first fund who have not completed a first closing
The firm must notify the Association as soon as the first closing is completed
Upon first closing, the firm will be immediately changed to the membership corresponding
to their assets under management and will have to pay the difference in the annual fee for
the current year
Firms can only be under this membership status for a maximum of two years
