Many of the Ferrari single seaters and sports racers that won world championships were born of the imagination of Mauro Forghieri and designed by him.
That was the case with the John Surtees 1964 158 F1 and the unbeatable Ts of
the Lauda-Regazzoni era. The same can be said of the 250 P, the 330 P3 and P4,
as well, naturally, as the 312 ‘PB’, the unquestioned protagonists among the

About the author
Leonardo Fioravanti was born in Milan in 1938 and graduated from the Milan
Polytechnic in mechanical engineering in 1963. He worked with Pininfarina for
23 years, where he personally designed some of the most famous Ferraris, until
he became the managing director and director general of Pininfarina Studi & Ricerche SpA. From 1988 to 1991 he worked for the Fiat Group,
first as deputy director general of Ferrari and managing director of Ferrari Engineering, later becoming responsible for advanced design and CRF; after that he became director responsible for the
Fiat Car Styling Centre. In 1987, he founded Fioravanti srl as a studio of architecture and in
1991 he broadened the company’s industrial services activity, especially the design of means of
transport. He collaborated with the world’s most prominent car manufacturers and has registered over 30 international patents, not only in the automotive field.

A project of high level meant to commemorate 100
years of Maserati, this work covers the history of the
marque in all its aspects and is divided into three large
sections. The first chapter signed by Luca Dal Monte,
deals with the company history and the marque’s
industrial matters: from the early years, when production was concentrated on racing cars, to the advent of
the first GT of the immediate post-war period through
to the great classics of the Fifties, Sixties and
Seventies. The ‘Road cars and design’ section by Lorenzo Ramaciotti, is specifically devoted to the Trident’s road cars: from the A6 1500 to current production, including the extraordinary expressions of design offered by
models like the 3500 and 5000 GT, the various Quattroportes, the
Mistral, Ghibli, Indy to then approach the present day, touching on
the 3200 GT and the current Quattroporte, Granturismo and
GranCabrio. Historic and modern pictures illustrate each of these
models in a long photographic treatise, preceded by an introductory section which focuses on the historic matters associated
with this vein of Maserati production. The last section written by
Cesare De Agostini and Gianni Cancellieri is about races: from
the outset Maserati’s history has mainly been one of racing,
from the pioneering era to the glorious Fifties, as much in
Formula 1 with the 1957 world championship won by Juan
Manuel Fangio, as endurance races, Maserati has expressed
itself with success at the top levels of the sport. But even before that,
the glorious marque had written unforgettable pages in the annals of racing, including
victories at Indianapolis in 1939 and 1940. The recent success of the MC12 is the latest chapter in this proud
history of achievement. There are also specific boxes in this section devoted to particular competitive aspects, such as the great

It was in 1919 when Ugo Zagato founded
"Carrozzeria U. Zagato & C.", a company

The Hyena is a beautiful car, but one practically unknown to the

Like a fashion designer or a famous Italian coachbuilder, for over 20 years

Oscar Scarpa, founder of the yard, promoted a tradition of excellence,
building with his son Sandro around 600 exclusive boats, each with unique
specifications, either technical or aesthetic and beautifully finished. The
San Marco boatyard has also enjoyed a successful racing career, with more
than 30 world speed records and hundreds of victories to its credit at the
highest competitive level, often with Oscar Scarpa in the driver’s seat.
The book is a tribute to the San Marco boatyard’s unique contribution to the
world of speed boats and cars and reviews its full history. The work is illustrated with a remarkable collection of hundreds of unpublished archival documents and photographs as well as detailed information, such as its extensive
production and racing records.
Six victories, two pole positions,
eight fastest laps and 13 podium
places. Statistics that are anything
but striking. In Formula 1 today, there
are drivers who have won a great
deal more, at least according to bare
numbers. But Gilles Villeneuve can’t
be evaluated like that, because there
is no way of measuring excitement.
Even though he has been dead for
over 30 years, the legend of the little
Canadian, who was killed on 8 May
1982, is still imbued with such emotion. Gilles the “Aviator” as Enzo Ferrari nick-named him, the only
driver of the period for whom the expression “Villeneuve Fever” was coined.
His “crazy flight” at Fuji in 1977, his first GP win at home in Canada in 1978, the unforgettable 1979 season followed by a year of purgatory, his epic success at Monaco in 1981 and the in-house duel with
Didier Pironi at Imola in 1982 and that last “crazy flight” at Zolder.

Il 7 dicembre 1958 sullo specchio
d’acque di Sarnico omologò UIM
proprio davanti al cantiere riva
che funge da base logistica e di
appoggio ai pretendenti.
Ritroviamo qui Franco Gilberti
che stabilisce una media a
116.32 Km/H nella categoria

che batte a bordo dello stesso

Ma non è tutto, il cantiere San
Marco chiude in pompa magna
« D » mais il ne réussit que 110,13 km/h sans battre
le record précédent.
Plus important encore que le résultat d’Emilio
Mangini pour l’avenir commercial de San Marco, il
convient de saluer le record du monde de l’excellent
pilote Carlo Toselli établi le 24 septembre 1958 dans
la catégorie runabout Classe Sport 02. En effet, ce
bateau est équipé d’un moteur Alfa Romeo Guilietta
TI préparé par Lesco qui va atteindre 80,54 km/h. En
se reportant aux registres manuscrits du chantier, on
peut se demander quel est ce bateau victorieux. Estce bien le prototype du bateau Giulietta, c’est à dire
la coque numéro 78 commandée par les frères Leto
di Priolo pour le compte des sociétés M.I.S.A.L. et de
Lesco ? Compte-tenu de la date du record et du registre de production du chantier, c’est tout à fait possible et cela correspondrait bien à l’orientation indu-
strielle prise en 1958.
Enfin, il faut saluer comme il convient les deux derniers records du monde battus en fin d’année par des
San Marco le 7 décembre 1958 sur la base de vitesse de Sarnico située devant le chantier Riva qui sert
de port d’attache et de base logistique à l’ensemble
