Welcome!
Welcome to the 10th Annual Grant Park Summer Shade Festival! Held at the end of August each year, Summer Shade brings an
Artist Market; live music and entertainment; fast, fun and gourmet food; the Kid’s Zone and more to the park for a weekend of
outdoor merriment. Even better, the festival benefits the Grant Park Conservancy – the organization responsible for taking care
of city’s oldest public green space.
The Summer Shade Festival kicks off with the Adams Realtors 5K Run for the Park on Saturday morning. Following the run,
Summer Shade opens at 10 a.m. on Saturday with a juried and a non-juried Artist Market including hundreds of artists working
in all types of media from jewelry to pottery, from painting to wearable art. Many returning and new artists will be in attendance.
The crafty and fine art is accompanied by live music on two stages featuring a wide variety of genres … it always sounds best
in the open air!
While the festival grounds are dotted with food vendors of many types, gourmands will want to head to Corks & Forks: A Fine
Food & Wine Event, which takes place during Summer Shade in the pavilion, 1-5pm, Saturday and Sunday. This ticketed area
welcomes several of the city’s outstanding chefs and pairs their summertime fare with wine and beer sampling, cooking demos,
a chef grill-off and more.
Sunday at the Grant Park Summer Shade Festival opens with the Grant Park Farmers Market beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the
Milledge Fountain area off Cherokee Avenue. The festival opens at 11 a.m., and keeps the party going all day with more art, music,
food and fun for all ages.

Corks & Forks is certainly one of the favorite features of the Grant Park Summer Shade
Festival. Held on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, Corks & Forks: A Fine Food & Wine Event
pairs a decorated, shady pavilion space with visits from some of the city’s best chefs who
prepare their favorite summer dishes.
In addition to trying plenty of amazing bites, Corks & Forks attendees will also sample sips
from Worthwhile Wines, Savida Sangria, New Belgium Beer and Wild Heaven Craft Beers.
Properly sated, guests can then grab a seat to watch cooking demonstrations courtesy of
Viking Store and Cooking School.
Back for the second year, the Chef Grill-Off puts three local grill masters to the test with a big
piece of protein from White Oaks Pasture. Corks & Forks thanks Builder Specialties for the use
of the huge outdoor grill. With assistance from Le Cordon Bleu student volunteers all
weekend, Corks & Forks will once again prove to be a delicious way to close out the summer.

How you can support the
Grant Park Conservancy
The Grant Park Conservancy (GPC) is a non-profit organization committed to the preservation,
restoration and maintenance of historic L.P. Grant Park. The GPC began as a group of concerned Atlanta
residents who recognized the need to protect Grant Park from the demands of growing use and declining
maintenance.
John C. Olmsted, of the famous Olmsted landscape design firm, visited Grant Park and was
commissioned to provide a design/development plan in 1903. During an updated master plan process
commissioned by the City of Atlanta Bureau of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs in 1999, this group
realized that the impetus to implement the new plan would come only from concerned citizens. The
Conservancy now works to raise funds to carry out its mission and provide an enjoyable green space for
families, visitors and residents of nearby neighborhoods and across the region.
The Master Plan calls for massive renovations and improvements to the park over the next 20 years.
However, there are no current plans in the City of Atlanta Bureau of Parks budget to fund these
improvements. Modeled on other conservancy movements in Atlanta and cities across the country, the
GPC will work independently and in partnership with the city and its members to fully implement the
Master Plan.
The GPC recognizes the importance of usable, friendly, clean, safe, well-maintained green space in the
urban environment and works to provide a public space in which the city can take great pride. But the
Conservancy needs your help and relies on your membership to further our mission. Please join the
Conservancy or donate today!
For more information on the master plan, becoming a Conservancy member or general information
about Grant Park, visit www.gpconservancy.org.
