T hank you for worshipping with us this morning. We extend a special welcome to our guests and ask that you complete a blue or yellow visitor’s card and place it in the offering plate. I n the pew racks, are folders with information about the various aspects of the service. If you are visiting, please feel free to reach out to someone sitting near you and ask them questions about the service. Many of our visitors ask us about the time of offering. This is a time in our service when we respond to God’s gifts of love by offering the gifts of our lives. For many of us, this is when we make a financial gift towards the ministries and programs of our church. We also use this time to ask God how we might use the gifts of our hands and hearts in sharing God’s love. If you are visiting, there is no obligation to give a financial gift. We are just glad you are worshipping with us. A W T ll are invited to come down to the Social Room for refreshments and conversations following the service. e ask that you please silence your cell phones during our worship service. here is much information about the church in this bulletin. For more information on our history, programs, and recent photos, you can go to our website: www.erucc.org. Donate online by scanning this code: T hank you. EVANGELICAL REFORMED CHURCH United Church of Christ - An Open and Affirming Congregation – May 17, 2015 YOUTH SUNDAY 10:30 a.m. The numbered hymns are from the Black Hymnal †All who are able may stand. We Are Here… (Today’s service has been planned by the Youth of ERUCC and focuses on the theme of “We Are Here…” The gifts of youth are often overlooked or ignored in church and society. The youth of ERUCC celebrate the support they receive from members and friends of ERUCC and the many people who create safe spaces in their lives to explore their faith and identity. In today’s service, ERUCC Youth will demonstrate that they are here in beauty and strength, recognizing that each one of them is a unique and beloved child of God. They will also affirm that while they celebrate their individuality, they recognize the strength that comes from being together as a group and as part of the Body of Christ. Be who you are but remember we are in unity with one another. As you entered the sanctuary this morning, you were given a piece of yarn. As we worship this morning, we invite you to tie your piece of yarn to that of the person sitting next or near you. In this way, we will create a colourful web symbolic of our uniqueness as well as the beauty of the web of our relationships. ) Chimes Concert at 10:00 a.m. from Trinity Chapel’s steeple Greetings and Announcements Prelude †Choral Call to Worship ALL (sung) We are here We are here for all of us We are here for all of us We are here. I will go Lord, if you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart. I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have borne my people's pain. I have wept for love of them. They turn away. I will break their hearts of stone, give them hearts for love alone. I will speak My word to them Whom shall I send? TUESDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY – We are exploring the Old Testament using Amy-Jill Levine’s Great Courses resource. Study guides are available in the church office (11-Noon in the downstairs Conference Room) NEXT SUNDAY – May 24 WORSHIP NOTES: Pentecost - Pentecost, as described in the classic text in Acts 2:1-21, is a high holy day of the life of the church. Pentecost is the day we celebrate the founding of the Christian church. More than that, on Pentecost, we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit into the life of the church and into our own lives. The power of the Holy Spirit is reinforced in the gospel for this day, John 15:26-27 and 16:4b-15, when Jesus explains what the Holy Spirit will do for the faithful. This raises the question of what “spirit” means to us in the 21st Century. What does “spirit” look like in these modern times? The Senior Choir will be singing.
