15.00-16.00 Fogra specification for System
and Process Check for Large Format Printing
applications - between market necessity and
technical opportunity for printers, print buyers,
printing systems and substrate manufacturers
When producing a colour reproduction, it is important
that the persons responsible for data creation, colour
separation, proofing and printing operations have
previously agreed on a minimum set of parameters that
define the visual characteristics and other technical
properties of the planned print product. The Fogra
specification is based on ISO/DTS 15311-1 and specifies
the requirements and print quality attributes that can be
applied to digital large format signage printing products
and by implication to the systems that uses a print
combination to produce the respective print products.
Dorin Pitigoi, colour & standardization expert, Fogra

11.00-11.30 How to Select and Evaluate an External
DP Textile Supplier
As the industry matures and printers become more
efficient at printing textiles, an opportunity to outsource
will exist for the printer and user. What are some of the
common pitfalls when outsourcing your digital textiles?
We’ll explore some common sense approaches to
make sure your chosen supplier can deliver the goods
correctly and consistently on every project.

opportunity
Paul Jenkins from UK packaging innovation consultancy
The Pack Hub discusses the increased role that digital
print can play in delivering exciting, consumer relevant
packaging solutions.
Paul Jenkins, Consultant, The Pack Hub
12.00-13.00 Print2web - Intermediate
How to maximise the opportunity of print and web by
utilising print ready pdf’s to create a variety of different
multi-channel formats to drive revenue and add value to
customers. The challenge is that most printers still have
internal systems and staff skills that are suited to the
historic generation of individual enquiries, estimates and
print jobs. Customers will increasingly demand a range of
integrated services that demand additional IT and project
management skills that must be trained or recruited if
printers are to meet the changing demands of customers.
Neil Falconer, Managing Director, Print Future
Chaird by; Michael Sturges, Consultant, Innvention Edge.
Joined by a panel of experts
14.00-15.00 Top 10 things printers can learn from
airports
In the airport, everything is reduced to the lowest
common denominator. The airport mistakes its market
domination for a you-have-no-choice monopoly (we
do have a choice - we stay home). And in pursuit of
reliable, predictable outcomes, these organizations
dehumanize everything, pretending it will increase profits
when it actually does exactly the opposite. Printers
need to learn lessons about how to attract and retain
clients and improve their customer service to grow their
business and maximize profits.
15.00-16.00 RGB, CMYK, Lab: pros and cons of
each colour space
Today’s world is RGB-centric, but is this always right?
This seminar demonstrates how and why Lab can be an
intelligent alternative in some cases and even when it is
reasonable to bring CMYK back to the stage and teach
the old dog some new tricks. Strong and weak points
in each colour space are shown and discussed and an
integrated workflow involving all of them is introduced.
Marco Olivotto, Owner, Marco Olivotto & C. snc
16.00-16.30 Colour challenges in signage printing
on non-paper like substrates - measuring, profiling
and viewing to correlate colour perception with
colour measurements
Measure as we see simply implies that matching
measurements for conventional (isotropic, i.e. paper-like)
and digital print products are consistent with the visual
judgment of a human observer. But printing on nonpaper-like substrates is common in large format printing
and, until there is standardized method to judge such a
substrate, the Fogra PSD visual based plausibility test is
needed to determine that used measurement protocol
(aperture size, instrument geometry, backing, software
algorithms) can be applied consistently to measure and
mimic the pertinent substrate.

John Mason, Vice President, Union Ink
17.00-17.30 Simplifying workflow for white and clear
inks in Direct to Garment and UV printing
Direct to garment and UV digital printing have
introduced new complexities to job preparation and
production. The common use of white as well as clear
inks within day to day production workflows requires
that print files are prepared in such a manner that
correctly and efficiently addresses how, when and where
white or clear inks are applied to a particular job. David
Evans, CADlink Director of Research and Development,
will identify these requirements and review how specific
features within software are essential in order to address
these unique production requirements while also
simplifying the workflow related to DTG and UV printing.

11.00-12.00 The re-colouration of textile patterns
The translation of patterns prepared for screen printing
to the new world of digital printing can be a headache,
especially when a dozen or so spot colours are involved.
A technique exploiting the most powerful resources
available in Adobe Illustrator is proposed, even when
the original is a raster image. This technique adds a
bonus: the artwork can be recoloured in real time by
using an amazing instrument available in the program,
with a flexibility which was unheard of in the world of
Photoshop. Integrating the two programmes is the
key to success, and opens virtually limitless creative
possibilities for the designer or digital artist at work.

entry into the direct-to-garment printing business
Direct-to-garment printing can work very well as a
business model: Today’s printing systems can pay for
themselves in as little as six months! But of course there
are a few success factors that we will discuss in this
session: garments, application knowledge, workflow.
You will receive a step-by-step instruction on how to
make sure that your start into direct-to-garment printing
becomes a success!
Oliver Luedtke, Marketing Manager, Kornit
16.00-17.00 Garment Tech Time

production faster and more profitable is part of that.
Rich Hoffman, President, M&R
12.00-13.00 Textile Tech Time:
Digital textile printing remains the segment that has
never quite fulfilled its early predictions. Why are
businesses still reluctant to consider moving into this
sector and what can manufacturers do to create a

11.00-11.30 The importance of picking the right heat
press
With all of the choices available, how do you make an
unbiased, educated decision on what you truly need out
of a heat press? There are several points to consider
during your hunt. Some of the following points will be
valid for any heat press, no matter which model or type
of press, and others will depend on what you intend to
use the machine for and the frequency with which you
intend to use it. To help look past all of the promises
and gimmicks and keep it simple, our list of the five key
elements to consider when purchasing a heat press will
be reviewed.

12.00-13.00 Challenging images for textile printing
Some images are challenging to reproduce no matter
how good and flexible the printing technique is. Textile
printing is making giant leaps forward but some kind
of limit is present, of course. Rather than asking for
the impossible, the key step is prevention and image
preparation. Some images must actually be made worse
in order to print better, especially when gamut problems
are involved. This seminar shows the most common
problems and a general approach to solve them.
