P. Historic Post Office
In continuous operation in the City of
Kimmswick since 1858. Donated to
the City by Lucianna Gladney Ross, December 2010.
In Memory of
Lucianna Gladney Ross
Lucianna Gladney Ross was our
Matriarch of Kimmswick. As an
heir to the 7-Up Co., Mrs. Ross
had the monies to invest in a
project. As a child, she and her
family would travel to their
summer home in Kimmswick.
People came by train or riverboat to enjoy time in this popular
river town. As time passed, the
highways were built making automobiles popular, and the riverboats and trains stopped
coming. The condition of the town became very
run-down. Mrs. Ross visited Kimmswick in the 1970’s
and her heart was broken as historic buildings had
been torn down or were in deplorable condition. She
decided to restore and revitalize the town, this became
her project for many years to come! Mrs. Ross passed
away on January 24, 2012, at the age of 96. In 2013,
Mrs. Ross’ family gifted The Visitor Center building to
the Kimmswick Historical Society. It was her desire that
the Maul House continue to serve as a welcome center
for guests. Our promise as Kimmswick Merchants is to
keep her spirit and vision alive!
Enjoy the Hospitality
of our restaurants, wide variety of
goods in our many gift shops and
galleries, or tour one of our
wonderful museums. Forty-four
buildings within the seven block
commercial district have been
recently added to The National
Registry of Historic Places.
Public Restrooms are available at
the Kimmswick Visitor Center as
well as all Dining Establishments.
Kimmswick is located 25 minutes
south of downtown St. Louis.
