Nestled amongst the hills and winding creeks of Casey County is a community with serene beauty, country roads and some of the kindest folks you’ll ever meet. The Mennonite Community in the South Fork area brings with its way of life the essence of a simpler time of long ago. Many of the businesses, points of interest and breathtaking scenic views will surely inspire each visitor. T he History of CASEY COUNTY’S Mennonite Community Deep within the South Fork area of Casey County lives a small community of Mennonites that have existed in the area since 1976. The group first came to the area when three families traveled to Casey County from Pennsylvania in search of affordable farmland. According to Edward Martin, a minister in the community, some of the members of the group originate from Missouri as well. In the South Fork area, Mennonites are considered Old Order Mennonites, which means the group tends to be more traditional in its beliefs. The local community, which consists of about 300 people, attends the Cedar Hill Mennonite Church. The Mennonite community primarily rely on a good ol’ horse and buggy for transportation through the counties rolling hills and valleys. 8 HOME & GARDEN continued... 4 MARTIN’S PRODUCE SUPPLIES (606) 787-9389 | Owner Edward Martin has operated this family business since 1997 and sells anything you could ever need to commercially grow your own produce.
