CHILD CARE CHRONICLE
May – Early June 2015
Muffins with Moms & other Special Ladies will be
held on Wednesday, May 6 from
7-8:30 am. Donuts with Dads & other Special
Men will be held on Wednesday, June 3 from 78:30 am. You must RSVP to attend these events.
Information about each event will be in your
child’s basket or folder.
ECCC will be closed on May 26 for Memorial
Day. Enjoy a picnic together!
Be sure to stop by the office during May to
complete your semi-annual form updates. Plan
to add a few extra minutes since we need to
update food program forms.
If there is somebody who you don’t know at our
door when you enter the building, do not let
them in! This is for the safety of all children,
families, and staff. If somebody follows you in,
let the office know.
Please apply sunscreen to your children before
bringing them to the center in the morning. If
you supply a bottle of it, we will reapply it in the
afternoons and other times when necessary.
Label the bottle with your child’s first and last
name. It may not contain insect repellent.
Conferences will be available for infants,
toddlers, preschool, and kindergarten children
this month. Be sure to sign up in your child’s
classroom.
Your next newsletter will cover the first half of our
summer session which begins on June 8.
Building Confidence in Your Child
Self-esteem is the foundation of your child’s wellbeing and the key to success as an adult.
Envision a brick wall- this is your confidence wall.
Brick by brick confidence is built. Talk about it
with your child. The more bricks that are on the
wall, the higher you will stand on that confidence
wall. Here are some ways to build your child’s
confidence.
You will learn a lot about your child during play.
Playtime gives your child the message, “You are
worth my time. You are a valuable person.” It is
well known that children learn through play. It
improves a child’s behavior by giving him feelings
of importance and accomplishment. Focus your
attention on your child during play. If your body is
with your child but your mind is at work, your child
will sense that you have tuned out, and neither
one of you benefits from the time together.
What’s in a name? Addressing your child by
name, especially when accompanied by eye
contact and touch, exudes a “you’re special”
message. Beginning an interaction by using the
other person’s name opens doors, breaks
barriers and even softens corrective discipline.
Children with self-confidence more frequently
address their peers and adults by name or title.
Their own self-worth allows them to be more
direct in their communication with others. A
school-age child who is comfortable addressing
adults by name will be better able to ask for help
when needed.
Keep in mind a healthy self-worth does not mean
being narcissistic or arrogant. If you raise a
confident child that grows up with a healthy selfworth, it means they have a realistic
understanding of their strengths and
weaknesses, enjoying the strengths and working
on the problem areas. Because there is such a
strong parallel between how your child feels
about himself and how he acts, it is vital to
discipline to raise a confident child. Throughout
life your child will be exposed to positive
influences (builders) and negative influences
(breakers). Parents can expose their child to
more builders and help him work through the
breakers.
Inchworm News
May to Early June 2015
Dear Families,
The month of April brought a new baby into our room. Peyton has joined the Inchworms. She is now four months
old, and we are all enjoying getting to know Peyton. At the end of April we welcomed another new baby, Avery.
He is two months old, and we look forward to getting to know him. We also said goodbye to Danielle who moved
over to the Firefly room. We will miss you, Danielle!
April Recap
In April, we enjoyed activities relating to spring. We read books about spring, painted pictures with pebbles, took
walks outside to see the flowers, birds and squirrels. We also visited the ducks at the duck pond and enjoyed the
spring weather by playing on the playground.
Personal Achievements
 Avery is a very happy baby who loves to smile, coo and “talk” to the teachers. He likes looking at himself in a
mirror and watching the other children. Avery enjoys the swing and batting at the hanging toys on the play
gym.
 Cora is cruising around the room quite easily now, and has been letting go of the furniture to stand
independently for several seconds. She likes to throw and roll a ball with a teacher, and stack the stacking
cups into towers. Cora likes to greet her friends after they wake up from their naps by banging squeaky toys
on the ends of their cribs, making them both giggle.
 Reed is standing independently more easily and more often now. He makes his way around the room quickly
by cruising and crawling. Reed enjoys feeding himself and loves mealtimes. He likes to play with the kitchen
toys and makes sure to stir “the food” he is preparing. Reed also likes looking for dogs when we take walks
outside.
 Oliver has quickly gone from pulling himself up to cruising around the room like a pro. He has also mastered
the skill of getting back down to the ground on his own. Some of Oliver’s favorite activities are exploring the
bin of people & animals and playing with the musical activity table. He is enjoying learning to feed himself and
really looks forward to mealtimes.
 Nola has mastered crawling and is now pulling herself up to standing and beginning to cruise around the
furniture. She loves her new independence and enjoys exploring the tables and bins of toys without having to
wait for someone to get them for her. Nola likes exploring the squeaky toys in the sensory table, and the
people and animals from the block table. She also enjoys playing with the musical activity table.
 Peyton is working on rolling over. She has nearly mastered rolling from her back to her tummy. Peyton loves
“talking” to the teachers and other babies and likes to explore the hanging toys on the play mats. She likes to
sit up with help to watch the other children and she enjoys looking at herself in the mirror.
Special Dates: We celebrated The Week of the Young Child by playing music and beating our pots and pans to the
beat on “Music Monday”, and we painted with pebbles on “Artsy Thursday”.
Looking Ahead
In May, we will be studying flowers. We will spend time outside looking at flowers, read books and sing songs
about flowers and plants. We will also do some flower art.

Firefly May/Early June News
Summer is almost here! You may want to check your child’s box of extra clothes for
warmer weather things. Also, please apply sunscreen to your child before coming to school.
We would also like a bottle to keep here so that we can reapply in the afternoon.
We have a new Firefly in our room! Danielle has moved over from the infant room.
Welcome, Danielle! We look forward to getting to know you better. We also said goodbye
to Semaj. Semaj has moved upstairs to the Chipmunk room. Good luck in the big Chipmunk
room, Semaj!
Parent Teacher conferences are available by the end of the month please watch for a signup sheet if you are interested.
Things we enjoyed…
The dirt was a really big hit for almost all the children. They really enjoyed dumping and
filling the trucks with the dirt. Chase, Semaj and Reed loved filling the peat cups and
helping push the seeds in the dirt
The worms where also and big hit. Hunter, Silas and Bailee had a lot of fun holding them
while they wiggled in their hands.
Nursery school hatched eggs and shared the experience with us. Noelle, Yana and Genesis
spent a lot of time watching the peeps and listening to them chirp.
We also made our own bubbles this month. Benjamin, Olivia N and Olivia C had a great time
chasing and popping the bubbles.
The My Little Ponies are always a big hit with this group. When you combine them with
blocks and make fences and other thing for them, they become a new toy. Kylah, Morgan
and Abby spent a lot of time making fences and grooming the ponies during Horse week.

Children learn best through play and by exploring their environment.
Throughout the year, we’ve been guiding your child as he or she is learning
various concepts. We provide different activities and learning materials to
stimulate your child’s curiosity and to meet your child’s individual learning
needs. We use the Pennsylvania Learning Standards for Early Childhood
(which were just updated) as a guideline for instructions. The guidelines are
near the calendar in our room
Bluebirds Newsletter
May – Early June 2015
In April we talked a lot about the weather changes in spring. We kept track of how
many days it rained. We walked to the college pond one day to look for ducks. We saw many
ducks and turtles sunning themselves on rocks and lots of fish - No ducklings yet. I
promised we could walk over again soon and look for ducklings. We also enjoyed exploring
real worms. Most of the children were very brave and held a wiggly worm in their hand.
After discussing worms for a few days I asked the children what they knew about worms.
Here’s what they said:
Aubree – worms make holes to help the Earth.
Ayden – they have a head and tail.
Bella – worms live in dirt.
Cayden – birds eat worms.
Gaby – worms wiggle.
Chiara – worms crawl underground.
Gwen – birds eat worms.
Jacob – worms eat garbage.
Landon – worms dig in the dirt.
Liam – they eat dirt and build houses underground.
Shammah – worms dig holes and hide underground so hawks, falcons, and eagles don’t go
after them.
Sonja – they eat dirt and newspaper.
We celebrated the Week of the Young Child. We enjoyed Music Monday, played
instruments and had a parade. We had Taco Tuesday. Thursday we had messy art day and
used several styles of art to create a class pond. We ended the week with a special ice
cream treat to celebrate your child.

The Cubs – May to Early June 2015
Greetings from the Cubs!
We have recently experienced several changes in our classroom. We said goodbye to Ms. Amy,
welcomed Ms. Jes as the new lead teacher, and said hello to Ms. Cindy Niesley as the new Hive
teacher. Ms. Cindy brings a lot of experience and great ideas to our classroom, and the children
have already been learning and enjoying her teaching in the Hive. We have seen the children
processing the change through play, pretending to be Ms. Amy and the other room teachers;
we all miss her, but we are glad to see the our students adjusting well. We also welcomed two
new students to our class this month, Logan and Gwen. It is always exciting to have new
friends to play with!
We spent the month of April learning about spring, seeds, plants, and taking care of the earth,
and also enjoyed our theme days for Week of the Young Child. It was so exciting to see so
many significant family members come out for Family Friday lunch! Thank you for your
involvement; the students love to include their families in their school life. For the next month
and a half, we will celebrate the special women and men in our lives: mothers, grandmothers,
aunts, fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and special friends. We will also take some time to learn
about farms and pond habitat.

MAY/JUNE FOX NEWS
April showers… we learned a lot about weather in April as well as taking care of
the earth, celebrating week of the young child and spring fun. Thank you for
helping to make lunch with our parents such a great success!
Bring May flowers…which grow in dirt along with worms!! There has been some
talk about worms lately so I guess it's time to investigate these slimy, squirmy
critters. Birds eat them and flowers and rocks fall naturally into this theme of
investigation. We will be out digging in the dirt so an extra pair of old shoes or
boots to keep here for a while would be a good idea. Watch your daily sheet to
know when to bring them. Also remember to exchange winter extra clothes for
warm weather clothing. Memorial Day is a good time to learn about maps and
where we fit into the United States; where we have been and where we may be
going on vacations.
Of course, we will celebrate Moms and all those other wonderful “girls” in our lives. Don’t
forget to sign up for Muffins with Moms & Other Special Ladies. Don’t worry, Dads.
Donuts with Dads & Other Special Men is coming up on June 3.
I asked the Foxes what their favorite thing to do with Mom was:
Mia-go shopping
Barrett-play UNO (the red version)
Garrett- cook and bake cookies
Bella-read books before I go to bed
Elysia-be with her and snuggle in the beanbag
Luka-hugging and kissing her on the couch
Kailey-cook and pull green beans and crack eggs
Mya-play the Frozen game
Ryan-help to wash the dishes
Andi-snuggle with her on the bed
Sounds like some lovely ways to spend time with Mom.
Watch for a parent conference sign-up sheet posted outside our door.
As we finish out the school year, I would like to give parents, grandparents or extended
family one more opportunity to come in the class to share hobbies, talents, jobs or have an
opportunity to read to the class. If this sounds like something you would like to do please
let me know and we will set up a date and time.
As many of you know our Fox room moves lock-stock and barrel to a larger Nursery School
room in another part of the building to accommodate the larger amount of children we will
have for the summer. We will be “moving” several days before so some of our time will be
spent in the “big” room. We may also be spending more time outside doing fun things like
lemonade and animal cracker walks or going for slushies at T.H. or to the college for
popsicles. Be sure to check by our door for our location if you do not find us in our room.
You will receive another newsletter with our schedule and a calendar when we start our
summer session on June 8th. I will be seeing most of you over the summer, but to those of
you who will be leaving for the summer, be safe, have fun and above all…make
memories!!

E-Town Bears’ May/Early June 2015 Newsletter
Just as flowers need water, sun and air to grow, we offer a variety of activities that
will help the children to grow in many ways! We put a spin in learning by encouraging their
imaginations through creative play! Last month’s interests were jump ropes (doubledutch), capture the flag (team building activity) and building with magna-tiles, large blocks
and Lego’s! Even though they were surprised to find out that they were actually learning
math and science while participating in those activities, they thought it was a fun way of
learning!
We try our best to plan our activities based on the children’s interests! Some of their
interest can get a bit challenging and sound like fun, but we have to always take safety
into consideration. They express their disappointments, and that’s when we help to
problem solve and brain storm with an appropriate solution. Problem solving is a very
important tool. We encourage and guide the children through this to practice in resolving
a disagreement. We understand that all children are not alike. Some have a difficult time
accepting and understanding another person’s point of view, and then there are some who
do understand and are more willing to work together to resolve the problem. Helping and
guiding the children to problem solve is a work in progress. We hope that this valuable tool
will also help them in their everyday life for always!
We asked the children a fun question to answer:
“What is on your summer bucket list?”
Izzy: To take walks with Mom for exercise
Bryce: Going to Tennessee and going fishing
Elizabeth: Going to California to visit my Aunt and cousins
Natalie: Camping
Emily G.: Going to the beach
Keegan: Going on vacation to Illinois with my family
Mia: Ohio for a family reunion
Carson: Playing with my kindle and relaxing
Cole: Getting an above ground pool
Sam: Hershey Park Happy
Brody: Going to Great Wolf Lodge
Grayson: Visiting Grandpop and swimming
Vivian U: Visiting my cousins in Main and riding our bikes to a penny candy store
