LUKE WORKS is a manufacturer of fine objects for residential and
commercial clients. Specializing in furniture, bathrooms, kitchens, and
custom concrete surfaces. LUKE WORKS is involved in many facets of the
design and realization of engaging spaces. Our proprietary concrete mix,
lukecrete, and our research in and experience with sustainable materials
uniquely provides us answers for textural, aesthetic, and structural
questions.
Led by artist, designer, and craftsman Mark Melonas, the team of artisans
at LUKE WORKS create elements that combine modern materials and
technical savvy with traditional hand work and finesse. Using a local
network of high quality suppliers, each piece is handmade in our Baltimore
studio.

materials + process
Years of hands-on experience, research and the willingness to experiment has
allowed LUKE WORKS to create pieces in a wide array of materials. This permits
the design and function of an object to rule it’s creation.
Quality, inventiveness, and customization are made real through our processes and
artisanry at the bench. From careful fastener selection to specialized tooling each
step of creation is scrutinized for the optimum choice.
Our wood finishes are hand-rubbed between each coat, our lukecrete raw materials
are computer batched for each pour, and our furniture is assembled with glue,
clamps and screws.
Environmental Statement
As a consumer of raw materials we have a responsibility to our community and
planet. LUKE WORKS strives to use materials and products that do not harm our
environment.
We use sustainably harvested forest products as well as reclaimed or recycled
products. We are always researching and testing new green and alternative
products and processes. We do not use threatened or questionable species. And we
use the latest solvent- and water-based wood finishing products, which are low in
VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) and are HAPs (Hazardous Air Pollutant) Free.
Our concrete mix is available in 4 mix designs with increasing levels of recycled
content. All of our mixes contain a recycled material that reduces cement usage by
20%. Our industry leading concrete sealer is an advanced water-based product.

lukecrete is available in four mix designs
1. Original – our original mix design with refined sand, cement,
lightweight aggregate, recycled cement-like material, and
high-performance additives. 6% post industrial recycled
content.
2. Blast – we replace part of our sand component with a
recycled blast furnace slag material. This adds a peppery
speckle and depth to the concrete. 12% post industrial
recycled content.
3. lukecrEte – an innovative mix design utilizing crushed glass
as an aggregate. The glass is a mix of clear, amber, green and
blue from Baltimore County, Maryland. 36% post industrial
and post consumer recycled content.
4. Custom- we can create a custom mix design for a particular
need. We can specify the exact color of recycled glass, shells,
stones, metal or other special ingredients. Recycled content
will vary.
