ROLE PROFILE Role title: Communications Assistant (paid internship) EURODAD Reporting to: Eurodad Communications Manager About Eurodad: The European Network on Debt and Development works for social justice and an end to global poverty by advocating for transformative yet specific changes to the global financial system, and to democratise global economic governance. We work in close cooperation with our 47 member organisations and allies from the Global South to build powerful coalitions for change. Our current work includes stopping the multinational tax dodging that costs developing countries hundreds of billions of dollars every year, introducing global rules that will put an end to damaging debt crises, and making sure overseas aid and private investment contribute to real development in the poorest countries in the world. Role purpose: The purpose of this role is to work in the Eurodad team to help take forward our communications work. Communicating our research, policy proposals and campaign messages effectively helps to influence decisions makers and opinion-formers and galvanise political support for real change. This role will help to deliver Eurodad’s communications strategy and all related activities. The successful candidate will have an understanding of Eurodad’s work areas and a passion for global social and economic justice. They will need to be able to speak and write in English to a very high standard. They will also have some experience of, and interest in, digital communications. The selected candidate will be well organised, computer literate and may be expected to work independently when required. Support the development of Eurodad’s website. Lead the production and dissemination of the biweekly newsletter. Produce and proofread content for the website. Ensure that content is disseminated to Eurodad’s key audiences. Support media and social media activities. Help to develop Eurodad’s contact database. Liaise with external suppliers such as designers, printers, copyeditors and filmmakers to support Eurodad’s communications work. Help manage the communications around external events. Attend external meetings to represent Eurodad and take notes Help monitor the impact and reach of Eurodad’s communications work. Support advocacy and policy managers and officers with research and advocacy work when required. Support the preparation of narrative reports. Contribute, as part of Eurodad’s team, to building team spirit by supporting colleagues and assisting with the day to day running of the office. Support other staff with general needs, like equipment, supplies and office space. Eurodad Communications assistant (paid internship) - Role profile, March 2015 Page 1 Role related experience, skills and knowledge 1) Essential experience: Educated to at least degree level in a relevant subject; At least one year’s work experience in: Communications (preferably in an NGO environment) including in digital communications. Writing succinct and well-structured summaries and articles for newsletters, websites or other similar communications products. 2) Desirable experience: Living or working in an international environment; 3) Aptitudes, skills and knowledge: Required: A very high standard of spoken and written English; Strong communication skills, with a good knowledge of digital communications; A knowledge of, and experience with, social media platforms; Ability to proofread and sub-edit in English; Computer literate in all main Microsoft Office applications; Team player with ability also to use own initiative and work independently; Ability to plan, prioritise and work under pressure; Ability to work sensitively with non-government organisations across Europe and worldwide. Desirable: Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish; Experience of event organisation; Knowledge of other European languages; Managing websites; Basic knowledge of debates around global poverty reduction and relevant European policies. 4) Commitment to Eurodad’s objectives. Contract details Type of contract: full time internship contract (Convention d’Immersion Professionnelle) Duration of internship: 12 months, with a trial period of 3 months. Preferable starting date: to be negotiated with successful applicant. Financial allowance: €1,089 gross salary per month plus transport allowance and meal vouchers.
