(003592) 936 04 02, fax: (003592) 936 07 67, website: www.nadejda-crd.com, e-mail: [email protected] PROJECT PRESENTATION Dear friends, Sdrujenie “Nadejda-CRD” is a non-governmental organization from Sofia, Bulgaria which has an approved project under Key action 1: Learning mobility for individuals - European voluntary service (EVS) project on Erasmus + Programme, called “FOLLOWING THE THRACIANS” dedicated on archaeological excavations. BACKGROUND Project “Following the Thracians” is the successor project of two EVS projects Sdrujenie “Nadejda-CRD” has implemented in 2012, 2013 and 2014. In 2012 we did our first short-term EVS called “Thracian Past – European Future”, dedicated to ancient Thracian cultural heritage. The project was successfully implemented in Sboryanovo reserve (in Northeast Bulgaria) resulting with big archaeological achievements. During the project were found fragments of silver jewelry with medallions with female faces, bronze fibulas, iron weapons, cult objects and pottery. In 2013 and 2014 we did our second project “Thracian Heritage”. Totally 30 volunteers has participated in archaeological excavations at 4 archaeological sites: Sboryanovo reserve, near Sveshtari village, Northeastern Bulgaria; Vetren Village, Pistiros Archaeological site, near Septemvri, Southern Bulgaria; Archaeological sites in Ahtopol, a town and seaside resort on the southern Bulgarian Black Sea coast and Area in Velingrad called “Sveti Iliya”, a town in Pazardzhik region, Southern Bulgaria. The excavations brought significant results of royal funerals, ceramics, findings of coins, etc. THIS MOTIVATED US TO APPLY THE NEXT EVS PROJECT “FOLLOWING THE THRACIANS” The project was planned in 4 sessions, including totally 30 volunteers. In the summer of 2015 we will implement the first 2 sessions of the project with 12 volunteers, as following: No PERIOD PLACE / ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE SESSION 1: 10.07 – 31.07.2015 SESSION 2: 01.08 – 30.08.2015 Omurtag Thomb, Sboryanovo reserve, near Sveshtari village, Razgrad region, northeastern Bulgaria Area in Velingrad called “Sveti Iliya”, a town in Pazardzhik region, Southern Bulgaria COUNTRIES / ORGANISATIONS/ NUMBER OF PEOPLE Spain –Intercambia- 2 Romania – CVCN – 2 Italy – Jump In – 2 Armenia – ICIRLD - 2 Estonia – Seiklejate - 2 Turkey – UGAMD - 2 EVS: “FOLLOWING THE THRACIANS” DESCRIPTION: The topic of the archaeological project is the ancient Thracian cultural heritage. The project will take place in four significant archaeological sites - “Sboryanovo” reserve and an area in Velingrad called ‘Sveti Iliya’. The duration of the first two sessions of the project will be 2 months – one month each place. The first session of the project will start on 1st July 2015 and will continue for 1 month on the territory of “Sboryanovo” archaeological reserve. There will continue the exploration of the Big Sveshtari tumulus and other Tumulus in the Reserve, where in 2012 and 2013 a chest full of golden objects was found. The second session will continue in August in the Western Rhodopi mountains – the birthplace of the mythical musician Orpheus starting from 1th August till 30th August 2015. The focus of the excavations there will be Thracian sacred places. In the beginning of the EVS activity, from 1st to 4th July On-arrival training will take place in Sofia. It will be done by Sdrujenie “Nadejda-CRD”. After the On-arrival training the EVS volunteers will be transported to Sveshtari village. The activities for volunteers will include: fieldwork with professional archaeologists (digging, object cleaning, map developing, geophysical measurements, photography) historical restorations (Thracian feast, games, rituals, clothes, etc) educational visits to places related to the Thracian history drawing and describing archaeological findings getting to know the ancient customs of the local people reconstructions keeping an inventory and archaeological records thematic lectures and presentations cultural nights with presentations of each country; introduction of participants, countries and their most important archaeological discoveries camping (at the seaside or in the mountain) The participants will be accommodated in small family hotels in Sveshtari and in Velingrad, near the sites where the activities will take place. The Erasmus+ grant will cover all the accomodation costs, food and internal transportation. The pocket money grant is 72.34 euro per month.
