Business Case: More profitable companies
More and more studies show a strong link between gender and corporate profitability.
• McKinsey’s “Women Matter” research led the way on this finding in the past decade, most notably showing
that higher participation of women in management grows the company’s bottom line.
• The finding is robust and striking: One of the many studies on this topic shows that 15 major female-led
firms achieved a return of almost 50% in 2010, compared with an S&P average growth of 25%.
• According to Rothstein Kass in a recent study, an index of women-led funds produced a net return of 9%,
compared to a global index return of a mere 3%.
• Fortune 500 companies with the highest representation of women board directors attained significantly
higher financial performance, on average, than those with the lowest representation of women board
directors, according to Catalyst’s most recent report, The Bottom Line: Corporate Performance and
Women’s Representation on Boards.
