JASSO Scholarship
In 2011, JASSO (Japan Student Support Organization) started
offering a new scholarship scheme for international students
who study in Japan for no longer than three months. The JShIP program was designed to fit into this scholarship
category. In FY 2015, Osaka University successfully obtains
certain amount of financial support for the J-ShIP 2015 -2016
participants, J-ShIP summer and J-ShIP winter students, using
this scholarship initiative. The JASSO grant of 160,000 JPY
(80,000 JPY for Mid Summer) will be offered for well qualified
students.

Accommodation
The program has prepared short-contract
one-bedroom flats for J-ShIP participants.
These modern rooms are well equipped with
a futon (Japanese style sleeping mattress),
refrigerator, air conditioner, bathroom,
washing machine, kitchen, desk, and
internet access. Once accepted, refer to the
J-ShIP residence guideline.
<Homestay option>
Osaka University might be able to offer
homestay accommodation with two meals a
day for a limited number of participants. For
further details, please refer to the guideline.

Summer (2 modules; Introductory) For those who start studying
Japanese in summer period
Mid Summer (1 module; Lower intermediate) An 4 week study
option for those who have successfully completed elementary
Japanese programs
Winter (1module; Lower Intermediate) Ideal
for Oceania Japanese learners
The applicant must:
● be enrolled at a college or university. (Those who will have graduated
from home institution before J-ShIP enrollment are not eligible.)
● be nominated by an exchange coordinator / international officer /
Japanese instructor of home institutions.
Program Package (Fee)
● Tuition; 57,600 JPY per module / 4 credits (45 classes per module)
● Cost of tuition and accommodation will be est. 260,000 JPY
For J-ShIP Summer (2 modules).
● 1 module, 4 week (Mid Summer) program costs est. 180,000 JPY
● 1 module, 5 week (Winter) program costs est. 180,000 JPY
● Applicant’s own Responsibility; airfare to and from Osaka, local
transportation, food, excursion costs, and insurance.

● 8 (Summer) week (8 credit) program; 160,000 JPY

For Who?
JAcc 100
Students are expected to gain very basic proficiency in
Japanese equivalent to A2.1 (Waystage) in CEFR (The
Common European Framework of Reference) scale or
halfway to N4 in JLPT (the Japanese Language Proficiency Test) scale.
JAcc 200
Students are expected to build basic proficiency in
Japanese equivalent to A2.2 (strong Waystage) in
CEFR scale or N4 in JLPT scale.
JAcc 300
Students are expected to acquire Japanese
proficiency which is equivalent to B1 in CEFR scale or
N3 in JLPT scale.
