April 2015 7 Exeter cars star at Hendy Congratulations to Hendy on the official opening of their new MG dealership in Exeter. Exeter MGOC members went out of their way to lend a hand to the firm as an MGA, an MGB and and MGF were entrusted to the dealership as they celebrated their special event. And a number of members went along to the dealer’s open day last month to show their support for the brand. “We’re delighted to be handling the MG range of cars in Exeter,’’ said group MD Paul Hendy. “We’ve already seen great demand for the cars and next month’s launch of the MG6 will see another milestone in the return of MG as a major car company in the UK.” The opening of the new showroom is part of MG’s plans to recruit new dealers around the country. Last year MG was the fastest growing brand in Britain with sales growing by more than 360 per cent. “It’s great to be part of the new MG success story,’’ said Paul. “We have great new showroom to display the new range together with dedicated workshop facilities in Exeter and we have every confidence in the brand for the future.’’ 8 April 2015 Old ads revisited: ‘If driving pleasure is too abstract, you’ve never driven an MG.’ This 2002 advert from Germany plays on MG’s heritage. You could have your own slice for €20,000 April 2015 9 Eight MGs way out west We like going away in the MG in the spring – it seems to kick start the pleasure motoring year. So, we decided where we wanted to go and by which route; we decided where we wanted to stay and what we would do and where we would go while we were there each day and how we would return home at the end. We then put the word out to club members to join us. The result is that eight MGs (5xB roadsters, 1xMidget, 1xF and 1xTF) the group consisted of us (Bob & Lorraine), Derrick & Hazel, Tony & Gloria, Roger & Pat, Graham & Brenda, Nigel & Ann, Nic & Lyn and Chris & Pat and we all left Exeter Moto services on the morning of the partial eclipse of the sun and headed down the traditional way into Cornwall - on the A30, which is rugged landscape and even a pod of dolphins cruised past us. Our roads in Devon are pretty much ideal for MGing but the Cornish ones are not far behind and we all really appreciated the great service from the staff we received everywhere we went too. We had a great time and it shows what a little research, forethought and luck can bring. The Exeter club attracts owners from East, Mid and South Devon, as well as Torbay. We cater for all MGs, and members have cars ranging from MGAs to ZTTs, with pretty much everything in between also represented. We also welcome members with MG6s and MG3s! Meetings: We have club meetings once a month, on the second Tuesday throughout the year, apart from December. They are held at 8pm at the Ley Arms, Kenn. In December, the monthly meeting is replaced by a Christmas dinner. Runs: Members organise a Sunday run, usually on the third Sunday of the month. These take around an hour and a half, and pretty much always end up somewhere nice for lunch! The club also organises a major annual run which attracts participants from across the country. Keeping in touch: We have a website, exetermgoc.co.uk, as well as a Facebook page – www.facebook.com/ExeterMGOC – and a Twitter account, @ExeterMGOC, so there are plenty of ways for members to keep in touch with what is going on. Award-winning magazine: We produce our own award-winning monthly magazine, right, with news about the club as well as other MG-related content. This is emailed free of charge to members.
