The ExitLeft Performance Academy is the premier
training ground for young performers in Tasmania.
We have a proven record with students going on to study at NIDA, VCA, The
Arts Academy and WAAPA. Students feature in theatre and television locally
and nationally and perform live at venues around the country. We have highly
experienced industry professionals who teach, direct and choreograph for our
classes as well as working with students in a one-on-one setting.
As a music school we also offer individual lessons in Singing, Piano, Guitar and
Drums, with our teachers playing in bands and orchestras around Hobart. We
offer piano students the opportunity to learn on a Grand Piano and we have a
dedicated Drum Studio as well as recording facilities.
Music and
Drama creates
confident kids
Educational studies
have consistently
shown a correlation
between music and
academic achievement.
Although we do have
a high percentage of
students moving into
Performing Arts careers,
our focus is on creating confident communicators. Students who
study music, drama and performance throughout their school years
learn discipline, commitment, teamwork and how to be ‘creative on
demand’.
The majority of our students start with us in primary school and
continue through to the end of their college life. Our welcoming
environment encourages life-long friendships. Students develop the
ability to deal confidently with any situation and achieve consistently
high academic results. Studying at ExitLeft provides the best
grounding for students to succeed in any career they wish to persue.
Auditioning for Uni courses like VCA, NIDA,
WAAPA or the Arts Academy?
Preparing for this kind of audition takes time, dedication and focus.
Our most successful students spend a year preparing for their
audition. We can help guide you on the best choices for audition
material, establishing a rehearsal plan and developing the
skills to confidently navigate the audition process.
Are you studying Pre-tertiary
Music (3C or UTAS)?
We understand an incredible amount of work
goes into getting a great mark in pre-tertiary
music. To do well, most students start the
year with a single lesson, but end up coming
into the studio two and three times a week for
individual lessons as well as attending group
classes to work on their performance skills
and stamina.
Students who require our assistance with their
pre-tertiary program must enrol in our full
service package. The package includes a
40min weekly solo lesson, Pre-tertiary class,
Musical Theatre and Contemporary singing
classes, professional accompaniment by
our staff, additional solo lessons as needed
and expert advice on program repertoire
and performance styles. This package also
includes Stage School.
The Academy focuses on Contemporary, Musical Theatre and Jazz
styles. Our centrally located studio has several spacious, well equipped
rehearsal spaces and a large music and theatre library.

Are you planning to study pre-tertiary music

this class is essential for you. Students will work
on stamina, expression, storytelling, musical
accuracy and audition skills. This class is
compulsory for any student who requires our
assistance in studying Music 3C or UTAS Music
Performance.
Grades 10-12 (1.5hrs)
Solo lessons focus on expanding individual
knowledge and understanding, development
of skills and coaching in performance
techniques. Lessons are tailored to suit students’
requirements and are benchmarked through the
Australian Music Examination Board exams.
For best results we suggest all students combine
a personalised lesson with our performance
classes. For students in Kinder to Grade 4 we
recommend 15min lessons and 30min lessons
for Grades 5 to 10 students. Students studying
music and/or drama at college level should be
taking a 40min personalised lesson as part of our
pre-tertiary music package.
