We have a proven record with students going on to study at NIDA, VCA, The Arts Academy and WAAPA. Students feature in theatre and television locally and nationally and perform live at venues around the country. We have highly experienced industry professionals who teach, direct and choreograph for our classes as well as working with students in a one-on-one setting. As a music school we also offer individual lessons in Singing, Piano, Guitar and Drums, with our teachers playing in bands and orchestras around Hobart. We offer piano students the opportunity to learn on a Grand Piano and we have a dedicated Drum Studio as well as recording facilities. Although we do have a high percentage of students moving into Performing Arts careers, our focus is on creating confident communicators. Preparing for this kind of audition takes time, dedication and focus. Our most successful students spend a year preparing for their audition. We can help guide you on the best choices for audition material, establishing a rehearsal plan and developing the skills to confidently navigate the audition process. Are you studying Pre-tertiary Music (3C or UTAS)? We understand an incredible amount of work goes into getting a great mark in pre-tertiary music. To do well, most students start the year with a single lesson, but end up coming into the studio two and three times a week for individual lessons as well as attending group classes to work on their performance skills and stamina. Students who require our assistance with their pre-tertiary program must enrol in our full service package. The package includes a 40min weekly solo lesson, Pre-tertiary class, Musical Theatre and Contemporary singing classes, professional accompaniment by our staff, additional solo lessons as needed and expert advice on program repertoire and performance styles. This package also includes Stage School. The Academy focuses on Contemporary, Musical Theatre and Jazz styles. Our centrally located studio has several spacious, well equipped rehearsal spaces and a large music and theatre library. STAGE PERSONALISED LESSONS SINGING CLASSES ACTING CLASSES PRE-TERTIARY CLASS We offer individualised lessons in Singing, Acting, Guitar, Piano and Drums. Our weekly singing Classes teach vocal technique and performance skills in a fun and friendly environment. Drama is one of the best ways to build confidence, develop creativity, learn communication skills and have fun. Classes for Kinder to Grade 5 are a fantastic way to introduce your young performer to singing. Students focus on singing techniques, musical concepts and a range of musical styles with age appropriate fun songs. Kinder - Grade 1 (30mins) Grades 2-5 (1hr) Acting for Kinder to Grade 6 builds confidence and develops skills through improvisation, focus games, role playing and working solo. Grades 10-12 (1.5hrs) Solo lessons focus on expanding individual knowledge and understanding, development of skills and coaching in performance techniques. Lessons are tailored to suit students’ requirements and are benchmarked through the Australian Music Examination Board exams. For best results we suggest all students combine a personalised lesson with our performance classes. For students in Kinder to Grade 4 we recommend 15min lessons and 30min lessons for Grades 5 to 10 students. With such a breadth of styles within each genre our classes give students the opportunity to train in Musical Theatre and Contemporary (pop) music. Students focus on healthy singing techniques (including safe belting) and the range of different performance styles. Stage School is our fast-track weekly skills-building class. Taught through a musical theatre show, students will expand their skills in singing, acting, dancing and stagecraft. Over the past two years students have performed Thoroughly Modern Millie, Mulan, Cinderella and Rockin’ Robin Hood. The Hobart Children’s Choir will become an icon for the community, representing Hobart locally, nationally and internationally. Our ambition for the choir is to build it to become nationally recognised and world class. Being part of this experience will be a lot of fun, but it is important to note that to achieve this standard of performance will require a high level of commitment and attendance at rehearsal. Acceptance into the choir will be by Audition. Grades 5-10 (1.5hrs) Lessons take place during school term time. In 2014 billing takes place during Week 1 and Week 6 of each term. All missed lessons to be paid for, with the opportunity for students to attend another class or arrange a catch up solo lesson. Package pricing is per student. Ian Williams (Principal) Singing, Performance and Direction Ian is the Principal and Artistic Director of ExitLeft. He has a Bachelor of Music, specialising in Voice and is in demand as a Director and Musical Director. He is known for producing and directing some of the biggest shows in the State. He is a member of ANATS and the TMTA. Brett Budgeon, Singing & Acting Brett is a contemporary vocal teacher and performer. On the stage he has recently performed the leading roles in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera and Jesus Christ Superstar. As a singing teacher he has run a successful studio in Burnie for the past 15 years before joining ExitLeft. Brett has studied at the Tasmanian Conservatorium, Victorian College of the Arts and Queensland Conservatorium of Music. Malory Butters, Singing, Acting & Choreography Malory is a graduate of the National institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA). Her most recent stage performance was Elle Woods in the hit production of Legally Blonde. Malory specialises in contemporary musical theatre and acting for singers as well as having a strong background in Dance. Craig Irons, Singing, Acting & Composition A graduate of the Ballarat Arts Academy, Craig is an accomplished actor, singer, director and composer. He has appeared on Neighbours and House Husbands (TV) as well as recently playing the lead roles of Emmett in Legally Blonde and Noah Claypoole in Oliver (Stage). Greg Souter, Guitar Greg is an active member of the Hobart music scene performing regularly with bands Manhattan and the In Crowd. A contributor to contemporary music education he has directed the well known Rock Summer School and has been a music teacher for over 20 years. He currently teaches at Claremont College. He is a graduate of UTAS and furthered his study at the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. Our students are some of the best in the state! Jeremy Sibson, Drums Jeremy Sibson is a well respected performer and educator both on the Drum Kit and Bodhrán. He holds a Bachelor of Music, and Bachelor of Teaching from the University of Tasmania and has been a private Drum Kit teacher for more than 20 years. Jeremy also teaches Contemporary Music and Drum Kit at Claremont College. • Tessa Morrisby, Piano Tessa has been coaching students to high level results in AMEB exams. She is a member of the Hobart City Band as well as playing in the Orchestra for theatre shows. Tessa’s friendly personality is perfect for working with begining students. Enrolment may be deferred if ExitLeft is notified that a student will be away for more than 3 weeks. Two weeks notice in writing is required to cancel enrolment otherwise the next term/installment will be charged in full. All missed lessons to be paid for. ExitLeft reserves the right to make up cancelled classes with performance rehearsals at a suitable time during the year. Solo lesson fees will be charged regardless of attendance. Solo lessons will be allocated on a weekly basis. If a solo lesson is cancelled by the ExitLeft Studio it will not be charged. If a solo lesson is missed a catch-up lesson will be offered (at no charge) at our discretion. ExitLeft classes and lessons take place during the school terms. Billing will take place during week 1 and week 6 of term. ExitLeft operates as normal during all public holidays except Easter. If an account is not paid within 60 days without an agreement being made a $20 per month charge may be added until payment is made. Should payment remain outstanding we may refer the amount to a debt collection agency, in this case a 25% debt collection charge will be added to the account. Term Dates 2015 The ExitLeft Performance Academy follows the Tasmanian School calendar, with the exception that we start a week early in Term One and we finish with our Christmas Eve ‘Eve’ concert on December the 23rd. These excursions will all be within walking distance of the CBD and students will be fully supervised.
