SUMMER CAMPS
Fun and learning for students entering Kindergarten to Grade 12 Our summer programs focus on particular skill sets for students who learn differently. Student to teacher ratios are low (a maximum of 3 students to every 1 teacher) and several of the camps will have additional interns or assistants. Our goal in all of our camps is to both empower our students to view themselves as strong learners and to work on strategies to improve academic performance in content areas. For several of our core academic programs we will offer free pre-‐ and post-‐academic testing to help ensure that our instruction is resulting in significant gains and to aid teachers in planning their instruction for fall. As our lesson plans are finalized, we will also provide instructional goals for each session and handouts on how to apply the concepts in the fall. Since most of our students are “tired” from school, our programs will emphasize fun. Learning can and should be enjoyable. Breaks will focus on exercise and movement in the form of games. Note, too, that the camp descriptions have two parts: The first helps hook your student on taking the camp, and the second (in parentheses) is the short easy version to help you with registration. We are also aware of the way eating and exercising habits affect our students’ health and academic success. We will provide a variety of healthy snacks (fruits, nuts, cheese sticks, yogurt, etc.) and offer alternatives to our traditional sodas (chocolate milk, sparkling waters and fruit juices). Do you need more than summer camp?
Remediation sessions are available every afternoon from 2:00-‐5:00 in any subject necessary, including reading, writing, math, and other skill sets. Not only that, but you’ll improved comprehension as well. It’s all about “reading fluency,” which is more than just reading quickly. It’s also the ability to read accurately, with proper expression, while understanding the text at the same time. At the end of camp, you will show off your new skills by reading one or two pieces on video. (Gr K-‐2, June 22-‐26 from 9-‐10:30, $475. Teaches skills in Reading Fluency.) We can’t guarantee that your parents will make it a reality, but these skills will make it easier to try and convince them! (Gr 6-‐8, Aug 10-‐14 from 9:00-‐11:00, $625.
