Program Descriptions
Non-Registered Programs for Parents, Caregivers, and their Children
Story Time – 2 to 6 years
Babies in Playland – birth up to 18 months
Parents/caregivers and babies participate together in early learning activities that help to
stimulate cognitive, physical and social development skills.
The development of language is the key to a child’s sense of independence and positive selfesteem. This development is enhanced and supported by focusing on pre-reading skills with
use of storytelling and special activities.
Exploring Science – 2 ½ to 6 years
Singable Stories for Babies – birth up to 18 months
This program focuses on a variety of story-telling methods using story songs, story props, and
reading from a book. Parents are encouraged to try these different methods at home.
Children enjoy exploring through discovery and manipulation of a variety of materials. In this
program, children explore basic cause and effect concepts and practice problem solving skills.
Brilliant Babies – 6 months up to 15 months
Fun With Learning – 2½ to 6 years
This program provides a learning environment offering unique activities and experiences
in gross motor and fine motor development, sensory, self-discovery, literacy and music.
This program provides families and their children with opportunities to learn while they play.
Activities include pre-reading, math concepts, games, creative and sensory activities.
Tot Stop – 18 months up to 36 months
Fit and Fun – 2 ½ to 6 years
This program focuses on toddler development through play. Parents/caregivers engage in
activities with their children including, arts and crafts, sensory activities, songs and rhymes.
Children who are physically active feel good about themselves! Through a variety of activities,
children exercise their bodies to increase large motor co-ordination.
Messy Play – 18 months to 6 years
Family Time – birth to 6 years
This program focuses on exploring our five senses through a variety of multi-sensorial activities.
Sensory experiences stimulate children’s learning and allow for self-discovery.
This program allows families to meet others and play interactively in an early learning
environment. The program includes; arts and crafts, music, pre-reading, and math concepts.
Let’s Create – 18 months to 6 years
Me and Dad – birth to 6 years (Dads only program)
Through a variety of manipulative materials, children explore their creative and imaginary
skills. Children learn basic concepts and practice their fine motor skills.
This program is for dads, uncles and grandpas to play interactively with their children. It
offers arts and crafts, music and movement and focuses on science and discovery.
Singable Stories for Toddlers – 18 months up to 3 years
Open Door – birth to 6 years
This program focuses on a variety of story-telling methods using story songs, story props, and
reading from a book. Parents are encouraged to try these different methods at home.
Come and explore our centre and the resources available to you. Families are welcome to
come and play with their children when regular programs are not being offered.

*Foodshare Toronto: Baby Food Basics* (for parents of infants, 3 months up to 12 months) Rouge River Community Centre
This workshop offers information on when to introduce solids to your infant, how to make your own baby food and how to store food safely.

*Sing & Stroll* (for parents and their children, birth up to 18 months) Toogood Pond Park
This program takes place in a neighbourhood park. Stroller walking is a great way to get the 30-60 minutes of daily physical activity as recommended by Health Canada.
Together with your child the sessions also encourage active participation during the sing-a-long portion of the program.
