The focus of the Ontario Early Years Centres is to help all parents/caregivers give their
young children the best possible start in life. All services offered by the Early Years Centre
are provided free-of-charge.
0 to 6 years – Making a Difference
The first six years are the most important years in your child’s life. In the early years, the brain
forms connections that set the stage for lifelong learning, behavior and health. By age six,
children have a solid foundation for reaching their full potential in the years ahead.

Program Descriptions
Family Time (Birth to 6 years)
Family Time is for parents, caregivers, and their children to meet others and
play interactively in an early learning environment. The program includes
arts and crafts, music, pre-reading and math concepts.
Me and Dad (Birth to 6 years)
This program is for dads, uncles and grandpas to have a special fun time
with their children. The program includes arts and crafts, music and
movement, as well as, science and discovery.
Songs & Stories in Mandarin (Birth to 6 years)
Familiarize and increase your child’s level of interest in the cultures and
language offered by means of songs and stories.
Songs and Stories in Farsi (Birth to 6 years)
Familiarize and increase your child’s level of interest in the Persian culture
and language, by means of songs and stories, both in Farsi and English
Language.
Babies in Playland (Birth to Walkers)
This program focuses on babies’ early development. It provides parents
and caregivers learning opportunities on infant development through
social and interactive play.
Songs & Stories @ the Library (18 months to 4 years)
This program will focus on specific children’s stories using a variety of
storytelling methods: traditional storytelling, story songs, storytelling with
props, and reading from a book.
Messy Play (18 months to 6 years)
This program will focus on exploring our five senses through a variety of
activities.
Creative Movement- (18 months to 6 years)
This program fosters development in listening skills, auditory awareness,
speech and language development and involves both large and fine
motor skills
Learning Together (2 – 6 years) Main Site
Learning Together is a program that engages adults and children to learn
and explore literacy, mathematics, science and motor skills together. This
program allows for prediction, experimentation and hands on exploration
through a variety of learning experiences.
Tot Stop (Walkers to 30 months)
This program focuses on toddlers’ development through play.
Parents/caregivers engage in activities with their children including arts &
crafts, sensory activities, songs & rhymes.

Circle of Play (18 months – 6 years)
Circle of Play program provides opportunities for children to discover,
explore, and create using hands, toes, eyes, ears, and mouth. The
program runs in partnership with Early Intervention Services.

Make and Take (Parents of children 18 months – 6 years) Main Site
*Hand Puppet*
Make and Take is a program for parents and caregivers to make fun and
engaging activities that help promote early learning skills.
Maximum Capacity 10 adults.

This program provides parents with information on the healthy growth and
development of young children, focussing on the physical, intellectual,
linguistic, and socio-emotional aspects of development, to teach parents
play activities that enhance child development; and promote attachment
through active parental involvement in their child's development.

Make the Connection (Birth to 12 months) Charlton P.S.
Make the Connection is an interactive parenting program that promotes
secure attachment, two-way communication and infant-led learning - the
essential building blocks for a healthy, happy future.

The Parent- Child Mother Goose Program (Birth to 12 months)Main Site &

A group experience for parents and their babies focusing on the pleasure
and power of using rhymes, songs, and stories together.
Maximum Capacity: 15 Children
Triple P: Toilet Training - Charlton P.S.
Toilet training can seem a big task especially when relatives, friends,
neighbours and books all offer different advice. Your child will learn to use
the toilet when they are ready. This tip sheet gives some suggestions on
how to start toilet training your toddler.

Triple P- Separation Problems – Pre- Schoolers - Charlton P.S.
Learning to be apart can be difficult for parents and children. Shyness
around new people and anxiety about separation from parents are
common in preschoolers. This tip sheet gives some suggestions to help you
teach your preschooler to mix with others and separate from you calmly.

Triple P: Hurting Others – Charlton P.S.
Toddlers sometimes hurt others without thinking. They may bite, scratch,
pull hair, push or hit. Bitting seems to cause parents the most concern.
Apart from hurting, a bite that breaks the skin can become infected. If not
dealt with, this kind of behavior can get worse. This tip sheet discussion
gives some suggestions to help teach your toddler to be gentle with
others.
