How to make your family attractive
There are so many things that are pulling for the attention of our families.
Here are some suggestions to help keep your family more attractive than the outside distractions. Family Night Making time in our busy lives to spend time together with your family is the foundation of building relationships. Implementing family night is a major way to keep that foundation intact and simply enjoy being together. Teach Family Values Be clear on your family's most important values. Make a list of three to five of your most treasured beliefs. Focus your efforts on those core values. Model your values yourself. Verbalize constantly how great your family is. Everyone wants to be a part of a great family. Talk to your kids about what makes your family great. Your children will gain confidence knowing they are part of a great family and they are part of why it is so great. Teach in non-‐conflict times Have a family verse “Thy word have I hid in my heart that I may not sin against God.” Gary Ezzo, the author of Growing Kids God’s Way said the following: “Moral truth is best communicated in periods of non-‐conflict. That doesn’t mean we will not teach at times of correction, but it does mean a healthy dose of moral enlightenment should take place throughout the day and in the moments of non-‐conflict, when the child is not in a position to have to defend his or her actions.” Making Your Family Attractive Have an attitude of happiness for others. There will be no room for jealousy when we fill our heart and mind with joy for others. Our words will be positive and uplifting when we focus on all the blessings God bestows on us all. Tell stories to teach character (cause and effect teaching) Character defines who we are and how we behave in all circumstances. Teaching through stories is a great way to spark conversation about character. Ebenezer Stones Have memorials of what God has done in your lives over the years. Family Time Spend more time with Family than Friends People tend to become more like those they spend the most time with. Be a generous family Have your children involved in giving to God and to the less fortunate. Help children learn how fun it is to give. Be a serving Family Find ways your family can serve in ministry projects, mission trips, or non-‐profits. www.Family-‐id.com
