2015-2016 FHS Band Try Out Music Instructions for Recording Each

2015-2016 FHS Band Try Out Music
Instructions for Recording
Each student enrolled in band for the 2015-2016 school year will complete an audition so that they can
be placed in the appropriate ensemble (Bands 1-5). Failure to turn in or record an audition by the
deadline date will forfeit your eligibility to be included in an ensemble for the band program. There are
several ways that students can complete this assignment.
Students will record their audition using Charms. If students do not have access to Charms from home,
the etudes can recorded live in band class, advisory, lunch, or before and after school. All recordings
need to be submitted by Thursday, April 30th, 2015.
To complete the recording using Charms, students can either use the Charms Parent/Student Portal app
on their smart device, or online at charmsoffice.com. Students will need their school student ID and the
School Code (fvilleband) to log in.
Charms Parent/Student Portal app:
1. Login using the School Code and Student ID.
2. Select Just Record Me. You may see a window asking if you want to allow Charms to have
access to the microphone. Choose Allow.
3. Click the record button, and record your audition. When you’re finished, you can listen to the
recording before you upload it. If you’re satisfied with the recording, select upload. If you’re
not satisfied, hit Trash and record it again. Don’t forget to upload when you’re done.
4. Make sure you record the chromatic scale and all 2-3 etudes on one recording. You can pause in
between the etudes if you need to, but all required etudes/scales need to be included in one
recording.
Online at charmsoffice.com:
1. Login under Parents/Students/Members. Use the School Code and your Student ID to login.
2. Click on Recording Studio on the bottom left.
3. The recording studio should appear on the next screen. You may need to allow Java to run, or
you may need to update to the latest version of Java before using the recorder.
4. Click the record button, and record your audition. When you’re finished, you can listen to the
recording before you upload it. If you’re satisfied with the recording, click the check mark and
name your recording “2015 Audition.” It will automatically upload when you click okay. If you
want to re-record, click the X button to delete the recording, and record again. Don’t forget to
upload when you’re done.
5. Make sure you record the chromatic scale and all 2-3 etudes on one recording. You can pause in
between the etudes if you need to, but all required etudes/scales need to be included in one
recording.
Recordings submitted need to be with no cuts or alterations during each etude. No electronic effects are
to be used. At the beginning of the recording, students should say their name and grade and the
instrument they are auditioning on. Incomplete auditions or auditions that are recorded with effects,
cuts, embellishments or by false identity will not be accepted and could cause lower band placement or
dismissal from the program for falsely identifying the performer.
Percussionists will have a live audition at their respective school. The percussion audition date will be set
soon but students should count on being ready by Thursday, April 30th.
