New Artist-in-Residence at Printing & Book Arts
Rebecca Lomuto comes to us from SUNY Purchase with a BFA in photography. She intends to break the barrier

Studio Manager Joanna Poag
Joanna joins our staff after Peter Pincus left the Pottery for the hallowed halls (or studios) of academia. While we miss Peter
intensely, he has trained Joanna and knows he has left us in capable hands. Joanna received her BS from Roberts Wesleyan,
and her MFA from RIT School for American Craft, where she worked with Rick Hirsch and Jane Shellenbarger. Joanna makes
large handbuilt sculptural forms that are an attentive play between simple line and complex form. Studio artists, please make

This class can be held at the center or at any nearby facility you

Papermaking for Printers, Painters
& Photographers
Bill Dexter
Wed. & Thurs. 6:30–9pm
Sept. 24-25
$85 (Members $75) We consider hand papermaking an art in itself. However
many artists want handmade paper for use in other processes.
•7•
Everyone knows how much handmade paper costs at the art
store. We will show you how to make your own paper to suit
your specific medium.
Paper Marbling Bill Dexter
Wed. & Thurs. 6:30–9pm
Oct. 22-23
$85 (Members $75)
Paper marbling is a method of aqueous surface design, which
can produce patterns similar to marble or other stone. The
patterns are the result of color floated on either plain water or
a viscous solution known as ‘sizing’, and then carefully transferred
to a sheet of paper. It is often employed as a writing surface
for calligraphy, and especially book covers and endpapers in
bookbinding and stationery. Part of its appeal is that each print
is a unique monotype.
Intaglio Workshop
Danny James
Sat. 10am–3pm
Sept. 27
$100 (Members $85)
The 500 year old etching process for today’s 500 mile-perhour people! Artists will etch a plate using the drypoint method
and explore the medium’s variants, such as using cardboard
and other materials to create a print that is similar to a relief
collagraph at the start, but is printed much differently with
surprising results. We will be using our new 27" Wright Intaglio
Press! All artists who participate should expect to pull a print
and go home happy and inspired to make more. Fee includes $20 for materials.
Etching I
Danny James
Thurs. 6:30–9pm
Oct. 2–Nov. 6
$280 (Members $255)
Be the first Rochester printmakers to work on the Center’s
new etching presses! Artists will begin by drawing directly
onto a zinc plate using a sharp needle. Prints are made by
placing ink inside of the rough “burr” that is created from that
powerful tool, and running that inked plate through a press
with dampened paper. The results are subtle and supple.
Participants will collaboratively explore monoprinting and
cardigraphs and also edition a work independently. Chiné collé,
photopolymer plate-making, and experimentation with nontoxic methods will also take place.
Fee includes $30 for materials.
Our new and expanded space has allowed us to have more
equipment, tools and toys while giving you more room
to work. Experienced artists are encouraged to ask
about facility access options.
We are GREEN! We use soy-based inks & solvents!
Commissioned work available through
The PinMark Press. We are open during class times.
Please call 585-244-9312
