College for Kids and LEAPS are youth programs designed to provide a week of fun,
hands-on, active learning opportunities for highly motivated and talented students.
Program goals:
· Increase interest and motivation in academics
· Experience stimulating and challenging activities
· Identify and understand natural strengths
· Develop team-buiding skills through collaboration
· Demonstrate creative problem solving and
higher level thinking skills
· Develop a love of learning and discovery
· Experience campus life at UW-Fond du Lac
Please note: registration is not complete until health forms
and payment are received. Confirmations will be emailed
after June 22, 2015.

Chaperones:
We are looking for parents willing to be chaperones. Duties
range from teacher’s aide to helping with breaks. Parents
assisting with these duties will receive a reduced registration
fee for their child (CFK $75/LEAPS $45). If you are interested
in being a chaperone, please contact Teri Mattek at teri.
[email protected] and include your child’s name, program
name and your contact information. If selected to be a
chaperone, you will be contacted after June 22, 2015.
A completed health form is required for each student who
enrolls in a camp. Health forms are available at fdl.uwc.edu/ce.

Monday–Thursday, July 20–23, 2015
Session 1: 9–11:50 a.m. (break 10:15–10:35 a.m.), Lunch 11:50 a.m.–12:30 p.m., Session 2: 12:30–3:20 p.m. (break 1:45–2:05 p.m.)
Choose two courses per student to complete a camp. Camp cost is $139 per student ($69.50/course) and includes snacks.
Lunches are not provided, students should bring a lunch each day.
Freaking on Physics
Learn about some fascinating topics in Physics with
hands-on experiments. Experiment with optics, lasers,
magnetic braking, holograms, watch fast motion turn to
slow motion and other fun activities. Learn how Physics
applies to machines, nature and the human body.

Critters and Clean Water
Students will examine the health of the water on the prairie
by collecting and analyzing the water and its critters. Children
will learn about point and non-point source pollution,
macro invertebrates, turbidity, nitrates, phosphates, and the
importance of oxygen levels in our waterways. Instructor: Shawn Herkstroeter, Principal & 8th grade

Dynamic Drawing
Learn how to improve your drawing skills with a variety
of techniques. Take your creativity to the next level as
you combine collage and drawing to create visually
striking works of art. Embrace the limitless possibilities
as you playfully explore new artistic directions. Bring a
large old shirt…this could get messy!

Can You Dig It?
Adventures in Wisconsin Dirt
You’ll discover how archaeologists do research, right here
in Wisconsin. Learn about stone tools and other artifacts,
and even make your own to take home. You’ll also take
part in real dig and discover buried treasures. If you’re
interested in Wisconsin’s past, this is the class for you!

Architecture Adventure
We’ll begin with a crash course in architectural styles
and basic elements of design and get our creativity
flowing with a few marshmallows and toothpicks! Our
big challenge will be designing and constructing a
cityscape out of random scraps of materials. When our
structures are put together, we’ll add color and texture
to make our cityscapes all the more awesome.

Chem-tastic Reactions
Bubble, Bubble, Toil and Trouble - In this hands-on
chemistry class, students will perform experiments to
help them learn about the nature of matter and reactions
it undergoes. Students will learn more about different
types of reactions and how they can manipulate and
control the reactions of different chemicals. Come learn
about the exciting world of chemistry!

The Intersection of
Art and Technology
Game Maker:
Video Game Programming
This camp gives kids the opportunity to flex their creative
muscles using the very powerful and intuitive Game
Maker software. Using visual scripting, kids will learn to
create rooms, trigger events, add music and sounds, and
keep track of their score. Kids will also use 2D sprites to
develop characters, creatures, and effects! Come join us
for four days of learning, creativity, and fun! This is an
ALL-DAY camp. Register early, seats are limited.

Back by popular demand! If you didn’t take this last year,
now is YOUR chance to join the fun! Build the ultimate
art-robot, a computer controlled robotic machine that
draws on any sphere, including eggs! You will start with
individual parts- electronics, motors and mechanicaldiscover what each part does, program it, and then
assemble it all into a real, working artist’s CNC machine.
You will learn the basics of computer based graphic
design and output your designs to your Sphere-Bot.
The Sphere-Bot and software are yours to keep when
the class is through. This is an ALL-DAY camp. Register
early, seats are limited.

Irish Weaving
ChemKids
Chemistry is Everywhere! Put on your science goggles
and come have some fun! You will perform experiments
to help understand interactions of matter in this handson chemistry class. You’ll be amazed that chemistry is
taking place all around you, all the time!

Big Bubbles, No troubles
Students will try to blow or form a bubble using different
geometric shapes. The ‘Bubbleology’ of a bubble will
involve students to examine the Math, Science and
Technology using the different geometric shapes/
methods with various kinds of soap solutions. Students
will use different colored soap solutions to create their
own design and/or Art. Bring on the Bubbles!

Get wrapped up in the fascinating art of weaving! Did
you know that besides igniting curiosity and creativity,
weaving is good brain food! We’ll give our hands,
eyes, and minds a fun and challenging workout as we
create woven artworks with a variety of materials. The
possibilities are endless! Wait until you see the woven
trees and the circular weaving!

Kids n’ Canvas
Create your own very own MASTERPIECES! Join the fun
and learn about art at the same time. You will paint a
butterfly, Summer landscape, an Underwater seascape
with fish, and Summer Poppies; while learning about
background, foreground, tints, shading, and blocking
along the way. Get ready to discover your creative side
by painting four 8”x10” canvases with lots of room for
imagination!

Cooking the Continents
“Travel” to continents of the world and create (and
eat!) some of their countries’ well-known dishes while
learning about the culture. The focus this year for LEAPS
will be South America, featuring Brazil, Argentina, Chile,
Peru, and others. Find out more when you take this “trip”
to South America!

Get ready to learn the art, history and science behind
the process making paper! We as a modern civilization
use paper every day to make our lives more convenient...
from toilet paper, to grocery lists, to bookmarks. Children
who take this course will become experts on the craft of
making paper into ORIGINAL WORKS OF ART such as

Robo-Foundry:
Build a Robot from Scratch!
Back by popular demand! If you didn’t take this last
year, now is YOUR chance. Build a fully functional,
programmable robot from start to finish! Start with a bag
full of parts, learn what each part does, build your robot,
and lastly use computer software to program it. On the
last day, it’s time to compete! You will test your building
and programming skills against your classmates’ robots.
The robot and software is yours to take home and further
experiment with. Register early, it is an ALL DAY session
and fills up fast. Please bring along a daily lunch, snack,
and beverages.

Co-ed Soccer Camp
Campers will develop individual techniques and team
skills including personalized instruction on shooting,
passing, dribbling, defense and offense coverage. Fee

Volleyball Camps
Volleyball Camps focus on developing both individual
techniques and team strategies. Players will receive
individualized instruction on passing, serving, spiking,
setting, defense and blocking. Players will also experience
game like drills and activities.

Co-ed Basketball Camps
Basketball Camps will focus on the fundamentals of
basketball including dribbling, passing, shooting, and
rebounding; individual techniques and team strategies
will be developed. Players will also experience individual

RC Elite & UW-FDL Girls
High School Basketball Camp
This camp is designed to prepare the girls to play at the
“NEXT LEVEL.” We’ll focus on all aspects of the game;
ball control, transition, shooting, passing, game play,
conditioning, and much more! Coach Ransom will have
the girls working hard at each practice while emphasizing
the real reason we play this game: The LOVE and
EXCITEMENT of Basketball! Expect competitive, energetic
and “fresh” practices! See you on the court!

The Great Gatsby Gala
Swinging at the Savoy
You have been invited to Jay Gatsby’s gala at his estate
on West Egg. Your gown or tuxedo is ready. You are all
set to go. But wait: what do they dance at these fancy
events? The waltz, the fox-trot, and that new dance that
everyone is talking about: the tango! Come learn these
dances so that you, too, can float over the dance floor at
your next sophisticated social event!

week? Then take the “A” train to Harlem and the Savoy
Ballroom, where they are doing those new, invigorating

these dances and you, too, will be the “the bee’s knees”
on the dance floor!

at the Palladium Ballroom

the pool (or at your local festival) all summer long!
