On the 6th of November 2012 India Vision
Foundation celebrated Diwali with the female inmates and
their children (at the Tihar Creche) at the Jail premises. The
celebrations were entirely sponsored by India Vision
Foundation’s long time partner G4S India.
Amongst the prison staff, inmates and children the
festivities were also graced by the presence of Ms Neeta
Sharma Superintendent (Jail no 6), Mr Sunil Gupta (Law
officer- Tihar Prisons), Ms Mansi Gupta (G4S), Ms Rinku
Lamba G4S, Ms Monica Dhawan and chairperson of India
Vision Foundation Dr. Kiran Bedi.
The celebrations began with Laxmi Pooja and
were beautiful, the inmates had made rangoli in the creche
area and the children were assisting in lighting candles. The
children presented a group prayer followed by a short play on
the relevance of Diwali. The IVF staff also organized a short
competition - where the children’s skill in art and craft were
tested. G4S distributed goodies for the children - uniforms,
drawing books, colors and dry fruits. Clothes and dry fruits
were also distributed to the female inmates by G4S and IVF.

A study tour to Teen Murti Bhavan (Teen
Murti House)
The Teen Murti Bhavan (Teen Murti House) is
the former residence of India’s first Prime
Minister - Jawaharlal Nehru in New Delhi. He
stayed at this location for for 16 years until his
death on May 27, 1964. It was designed by
Robert Tor Russell, the British architect of
Connaught Place and of the Eastern and
Western Courts on Janpath during the British
Raj. Teen Murti Bhavan was built in 1930 as
part of the new imperial capital of India, New
Delhi as the residence of the Commander-inChief of the British Indian Army.
On 3rd November 2012, eighty students ( 25
Assisi Girls and 55 Grace Mission Students)
of the project were taken to explore the
history of “Teen Murti Bhawan by the CVF
project staff. The children received a warm
welcome from the officials responsible to
facilitate the visit of its guests and tourists.
The children were explained in detail the
historical importance of “Teen Murti Bhawan”
and its present functioning. The children were
amazed to hear the recorded message of
Nehru conveyed in a Parliament Assembly,
when he was ascended to the First prime
Minister of India. It was indeed a great effort
put on to replicate the parliament model here
in this house for the viewers to taking the
children back in history.
Post lunch the children were taken to Nehru
Planetarium and were shown models on
Solar Eclipse, Lunar Eclipse, Galaxy, Picture
of Einstein, Division of Color of Light,
Concept of Gravitational Force etc. A movie
was also screened for the childrendescribing about the universe, celestial
bodies and their movements.
The trip offered a great opportunity to the
students to experience a national heritage
and its credibility. The trip was successful in
all means, an eye opener to the students
towards the history of India and an insight
into India’s struggle for freedom.

Children’s day at Tagore International
School held on 17th November 2012
For India Vision Foundation it was indeed a
day of upholding the dignity and interest of
the child, an occasion to share the beauty of
childhood and experience the joy of gathering
as members of the family.
Tagore International School, East of Kailash,
New Delhi - hosted this mega children’s
show facilitated by Family Vision Foundation
for the less fortunate, declaring the glory and
innocence of childhood.
Many other NGOs with their child
beneficiaries gathered there to make the
event a grand success.
There were plenty activities to attract the
young audience members and kept them
engaged and active.
62 of the India Vision Foundation’s child
beneficiaries were fortunate to be a part of
the wonderful event. A magic show, stage
performance, party games arranged stallwise, delicious lunch etc. Were all a part of
the event.
For India Vision Foundation however the
importance of this day was something far
beyond just the games, sweets and gathering
- it held a message to constantly strive to
build brighter futures.

Female inmates & children
In the month of November
Diwali was celebrated with the
female inmates and their
children, IVF distributed sweets
and also clothes and other
essentials for the needy.
Games were played with the
children and they were told the
relevance of this festival.
The female inmates have been
working hard at maintaining
their newly acquired skill in jute
craft (post their training in
August 2012) and thus have
been sewing products at a
small scale that IVF later
displays on stall for sale at our
corporate partner’s offices
across Delhi/NCR during the
festive season.
7
We have successfully promoted
the work and investment we
have made at the Bhondsi
Prison by generating small
funds from the sale of the
products made by the inmates.
The income is fed back into the
training, cost of material and
we also cater to a stipend to
each inmate’s labour.
The inmates are now being
prepared to work on Christmas
ornaments and gifts, which
subsequently will also be
available for sale.
Additionally, a workshop on
Forgiveness was conducted by
Ms Reena Sharma (freelance
counselor) with the female
inmates which was very well
received.
