URBAN MARKER: The Public Speaker The Public Speaker is a vessel for dialogue in the public realm; an amplifier for citizens to share their thoughts in public. The speaker also creates an alcove for sitting and listening. If permitted by the RAIC, during festival events, the speaker can project live audio from the lectures happening at the festival, so that people on the street will have an opportunity to listen and learn about architecture. The Public Speaker will be made from a fibre reinforced plastic with a lightweight aluminum frame. LED lights will illuminate the large ring and the mouthpiece at night. Local fabricator, Heavy Industries, will be engaged to build the Public Speaker, experienced and capable of building durable and safe structures. http://heavyindustries.ca/ Part of the budget will be retained to coordinate the live audio feed to the Public Speaker. 1600mm Plan Front Elevation 1250mm 1825mm 1825mm Section In the construction planning, audio levels will be tested to strike the right balance of sound levels so that the amplification is most appropriate for the immediate proximity.
