Welcome to Beverley
Festival of Christmas 2011
Cllr Kay West
Chairman of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council
At this festive time of year I am delighted to support the Beverley Festival
of Christmas and look forward to sampling the magnificent local produce
and crafts on offer. It is also a pleasure to see the effort that goes into the
event, especially the traditional Victorian costume and street entertainers
which make the Festival really stand out from the rest.
I would like to thank East Yorkshire Events and the festival committee for delivering such
a wonderful occasion, and congratulate them on providing a rarity these days, a ‘free’ fantastic
day out for all the family which I am sure is unrivalled anywhere in Yorkshire.
The Festival of Christmas always proves a hugely popular event, attracting visitors from all
over the UK into our beautifully historic market town of Beverley. It is a great opportunity to
showcase the best that the town and the East Riding of Yorkshire have to offer.
At this time of year when surrounded by our family, friends and loved ones please spare a
thought for those not as fortunate as ourselves. Finally, I would like to take this opportunity
to wish you all a very happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

John Bird
Festival
Chairman
Beverley’s first
Festival of
Christmas took
place seventeen years ago and has since
gone from strength to strength. I
remember the first Festival so well – a
huddle of a few stalls, together with a
mere handful of entertainments.
However it was well attended and it was
clear that it had the potential to become
a major event in Beverley’s calendar.
It is now arguably the biggest one
day event of its type in Yorkshire,
attracting in excess of forty thousand
people. We now have our own web site
www.beverleyfestivalofchristmas.co.uk
which contains all the latest news and
information concerning the festival. We
have more stalls and attractions than
ever this year together with all the old
favourites. Let us hope for good weather
and I wish you all a happy Christmas.
Best wishes John Bird
Festival Chairman
Cllr Peter Astell
Mayor of Beverley
The Festival of Christmas is
an excellent chance to sample
produce and see crafts made
locally as well as an
opportunity to enjoy the festive
entertainment and atmosphere.
Therefore it gives me great pleasure to welcome
you, whether you come from near or far, to the
Beverley Festival of Christmas and I very much
hope you enjoy the festive cheer that Beverley has
to offer.
With wonderful entertainment, the colourful
market stalls offering local Christmas nibbles and
ideas for Christmas gifts, not to mention the star of
the show Father Christmas with his delightful
reindeer, there is something for everybody. We are
as ever grateful for the work of the small Committee
of volunteers who make this event possible and
together with the assistance from EYevents, the East
Riding of Yorkshire Council and the Police make
this the best Christmas event in the East Riding.
I would also like to take this opportunity to
wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a
Prosperous New Year.
Councillor Peter Astell
Mayor of Beverley

This Year’s Festival
The 2011 Beverley Festival of Christmas promises to be the very best festival yet.
With the introduction of a variety of brand new top class entertainment, including
themed Victorian street performers, a stilt walking flower seller, a Victorian
musician, an authentic organ grinder and to keep the peace, a traditional Victorian
policeman, the whole event continues to develop and improve every year.
The festival will be opened at 10am in Wednesday Market, followed by the
reindeer parade which heads out towards Saturday Market. Children will then be
able to see the Cairngorm reindeer and Father Christmas until 2pm in Saturday
Market.
This year’s event boasts a number of street
entertainers, who will be performing at different
points around the town. The times and
locations for these can all be found on the site
map. The popular traditional Victorian
fairground returns once more whilst the
amazing falconry and birds of prey display
returns after great demand.
As usual one of the popular features of the
festival is the Victorian market, featuring over
100 quality stalls. Many of these are local
producers or crafts, some small manufacturers
and some raising money for their charity. There
will be stalls throughout the Saturday Market
area and Wednesday Market areas of Beverley
Town Centre, whilst new for 2011 will be stalls
within Cross Street so make sure you pay
everywhere a visit to see all the wonderful
selection of products available!
A park and ride will be operating to and from
Beverley Racecourse to the town centre
throughout the day from 8.30am with the last
bus returning at 4.30pm. This proves great
value for money as the cost of this service is
only £1 return for all adults, and children ride
for free.
Once again we are looking forward to an
entertaining and enjoyable day, as you can see
there really is something for the whole family to
enjoy. So come and celebrate Christmas as it
should be with us at the Beverley Festival of
Christmas 2011.
