RubberGard™ EPDM SA Item Description Item Number .060" x 5' x 100' W56L60510SA .060" x 10' x 100' W56L61010SA Product Information Description: Firestone RubberGard EPDM SA membrane with Secure Bond™ Technology is designed to be the next generation of self adhered roof system application. Secure Bond Technology is factory applied which ensures uniform adhesion across the entire membrane, creating a powerful bond with the substrate. This advanced technology not only significantly improves installation speed over traditional fully adhered applications, but also widens the installation window with the ability to be installed down to 20 °F (-7 °C). With no VOCs, RubberGard EPDM SA with Secure Bond Technology is the perfect solution for all your fully adhered roofing needs. RubberGard EPDM SA membrane meets or exceeds all the requirements for ASTM D 4637 for Type I non-reinforced EPDM single-ply roofing membranes. Method of Application: RubberGard EPDM SA membrane is self adhering and does not require the use of a bonding adhesive. Eliminating bonding adhesives greatly reduces the presence of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and increases the speed of installation. 1. Substrates must be clean, dry and free of foreign material such as grease and any debris which could inhibit adhesion. This may require cleaning with a broom or blower. 2. Insulation must be fastened per current Firestone technical specifications to provide a proper substrate for application. 3. Install RubberGard EPDM SA membrane only when membrane, substrate and ambient temperatures are minimum 20 °F (-7° C) and rising. Do not install RubberGard EPDM SA membrane below this minimum temperature. 4. RubberGard EPDM SA membrane requires no primer. 5. Unroll and position the membrane over the substrate to achieve the desired alignment and overlaps. Allow the membrane to relax a minimum of 30 minutes before final positioning and adhering. 6. Fold back one side or ½ of the membrane to expose the release liner without disturbing the original position. 7. Remove the release liner from that section of membrane starting at one end, removing at a 45° angle in one continuous motion. Use caution not to disturb the alignment. 8. After the release liner has been removed, mate or push the exposed RubberGard EPDM SA membrane onto the substrate starting in the middle of the sheet and proceeding to the outer edges. This helps avoid membrane wrinkles. 9. Broom the installed membrane starting in the middle of the membrane and proceed towards the outer edges. 10. After brooming is complete, fold back the remaining half of membrane and repeat the steps outlined above. 11. After the panel is boomed, roll the installed RubberGard EPDM SA membrane completely with a weighted roller weighing at least 5 lb per lineal inch to ensure full contact with the substrate. 12. Repeat installation process for adjacent panels. Fold back the top portion of the field seam exposing the bottom surface of the field seam. Prime the seam area to receive QuickSeam™ 3" seam tape with a QuickPrime™ product per current Firestone QuickSeam 3" Seam Tape installation instructions. Use the touch/push test to verify the primer is flashed off. When the primer is ready, apply the QuickSeam 3" seam tape per current Firestone QuickSeam 3" Seam Tape installation instructions. Storage: • • • • • • Warehouse membrane in a clean dry location. Membrane stored on jobsite must be kept dry. Material must be a minimum of 20 °F (-7 °C) prior to installation. Store away from sources of punctures and physical damage. Make certain the structural decking will support the loads incurred by material when stored on rooftop. The deck load limitations should be specified by the project designer. Store away from ignition sources. Shelf Life: 18 Months when stored between 60 °F (16 °C) and 80 °F (27 °C) out of direct sunlight. Precautions: 1. Take care when moving, transporting and handling to avoid sources of punctures and physical damage. 2. Removal of the plastic release liner from the adhesive backing, in specific conditions, may create a static electric charge; care should be used when removing and handling the release liner. 3. Refer to Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for additional safety information.
