FlexEnergy Commissions Multiple 250KW Gas Turbines in
Residential Complex in Seoul, South Korea Efficient, Reliable Gas Turbines Offer Cost Effective Solutions for Combined Heat and Power Portsmouth, N.H., May 21, 2015 – FlexEnergy, manufacturer of the world’s only synchronous
generator-based microturbines, announced that it recently commissioned gas turbine generators
using FlexEnergy's unique hot water cogeneration module for a combined heat and power (CHP)
application in a newly constructed, high-end residential complex in the center of Seoul, South Korea.
The turbines successfully passed KESCO’s (Korea Electrical Safety Corporation) rigorous
qualification standards testing prior to commissioning, and the site is now fully operational.
FlexEnergy’s turbines were chosen for this project as a result of their proven reliability and high
efficiency. Continuously operating in parallel with the grid, FlexEnergy’s turbines supply the bulk of the
complex’s electricity demand and supplement hot water boilers with built-in waste heat recovery
modules. FlexEnergy offers an integrated hot water cogeneration module, resulting in significant cost
savings to customers. This optional feature allows for a simple mechanical connection to a facility’s
hot water system, reducing footprint and facilitating the quiet, safe, and reliable operation of a
FlexEnergy CHP system.
“FlexEnergy’s cogeneration gas turbines are a natural fit for this type of development,” said
FlexEnergy President, Mark Schnepel. “FlexEnergy’s turbines operate on a wide range of gases,
including natural gas – a readily available, low cost resource in Seoul. In addition, the residents will
benefit from the simple and cost efficient operation of the microturbines.”
This is FlexEnergy’s first of three near-term projects in Korea, with an additional 3MW of turbines due
to be shipped to Korea in 2015.
About FlexEnergy
FlexEnergy is a privately-held, New Hampshire-based manufacturer of the highest quality and most
robust small gas turbines available in their class. FlexEnergy’s 250kW and 333kW cogeneration
combined heat and power (CHP) gas turbines provide highly reliable, low maintenance, and low
emissions electricity and heat to global customers, often in remote areas where the electric grid can
be unreliable, expensive, or altogether absent. Developed over the course of two decades by
Ingersoll Rand before being acquired by FlexEnergy in 2010, Flex turbine technology features a
highly robust synchronous generator for larger gas turbines. Uniquely capable of handling varying or
cycling loads in remote oil field power generation, this offers significant advantages in the field and
allows for the combustion of a wider range of gases, including flare gas. Please visit
