WORKSHOPS September 28 - Oct 1, 2015
Workshop fee: Members $395 Non-members $450
MORTEN SOLBERG
In Morten Solberg’s painting, white areas and negative spaces play a key role: they fix the eye on the
focal point, whilst avoiding saturating the composition with too much information. “Most of my
paintings start with the background to create the
atmosphere. I paint abstract shapes with a flat brush,
and if necessary use its edge to draw lines of varying
thickness. During this phase, I’m not thinking in terms
of subject, I am only thinking about the setting and
the act of painting itself. I don’t even know yet if I am
going to paint a puma or a tiger... It’s only when the
background is finished that I actually decide on my
subject.” Don’t miss his Thursday night demonstration.
JEAN PEDERSON
Jean’s traditional practice includes referential imagery
of people, still life, landscape and abstraction. The
layering of a variety of media offers Jean an assortment
of possibilities within her work; quality of edge, line
and texture all play a role within her imagery. Although
Pederson is well known for her mastery of watercolors,
mixed media has become an important venue for her
creative expression. Jean is the author of “Expressive
Portraits: Creative Methods for Painting People” and
“Mixed Media Painting Workshop: Explore Mediums,
Techniques and the Personal Artistic Journey.”
VLAD YELISEYEV - ONE-DAY WORKSHOP
