Pastor Fredrick LaFleur, Officiating
Yourick LaFleur, Jr., 79, was born to the late Yourick and Loniece LaFleur on April
12, 1936 in Grand Prairie, Louisiana. In 1952 he met and married the mother of his
children, Mary Lee Lavine. Upon moving to Lake Charles where he lived most of his life, he
joined The Church of Lake Charles in 2012, and was baptized by his brother, Pastor Bobby
LaFleur.
Yourick worked as a sharecropper in Whiteville and in Ville Platte, Louisiana. After coming
to Lake Charles, he worked in the construction industry. He later retired after working over
41 years plus for Carboline.
He enjoyed showing off his avid cooking skills mainly barbequing and showing everybody
how it’s really supposed to be done. He also loved gardening and planting his own prize
winning tomatoes and okra. Yourick loved watching his favorite NFL Football team, the
Dallas Cowboys—win or lose, he was their #1 Fan! He often told the story of when his boys
asked him for ‘all star’ tennis shoes. He went out and bought tennis shoes with stars on
them and told them, ‘now you have ‘all star’ tennis’. Yourick certainly had a sense of humor.
Yourick leaves to cherish his memories five sons, Fredrick (Brenda) LaFleur, Calvin
(Deborah) LaFleur, Hilton LaFleur, and Joseph (Debbie) LaFleur all of Lake Charles,
Louisiana and Jimmy (Dorothy) LaFleur of Alexandria, Louisiana; and one daughter,
Tammie LaFleur of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Three sisters Hilda (Kenny) Jack, Mary
Celestine, and Helen Oneal all of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Two brothers Willie LaFleur,
and Ranard LaFleur both of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Eighteen grandchildren; twenty-two
great grandchildren; Godchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and
church family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter Bernice LaFleur; one son Johnny
LaFleur; three brothers, Perkin, Leroy and Bobby LaFleur; one sister, Shirley Mae Oneal;
and dearest friend, Betty Kennedy.

God saw you getting tired
and a cure was not to be
so he put his arms around you
and whispered,
"Come to Me"
With tearful eyes we watched you
and saw you pass away
and although we love you dearly
we could not make you stay.
A Golden heart stopped beating
hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best!
We Love You
Fredrick, Calvin, Hilton, Jimmy, Joseph, & Tammie
God blessed us to share life with a Wonderful Dad, a man of patience with a heart that
was never sad. We saw this precious man in the potato and cotton fields, working from
sun up to sun down. Always caring for his family with a good heart and without a frown.
Never did we go without food or clothes, because our dad’s heart was like gold. He
taught his sons and daughter the meaning of work cause he was a man of wisdom, never
lacking in his work.
When dad took sick his caregivers were his baby girl, Tammie, and grandson, Tyrek. They
saw this wonderful hard working man, resend back into a child’s state; however they never
left his side. They were with him in laughter and sadness even in his last moments. His
oldest son, Fred and wife, Brenda were with him up until his last breath. They made him
comfortable until the Angel of the Lord carried him to his heavenly home.

The day that you left
Was the saddest of our life.
We remember sitting at home
And crying all day and night.
We know you loved us
And we still love you too.
So We’re trying to be strong
Just for you.
We know we’re not perfect.
We know we’ll never be.
We just know you’re up there
And that you’re happy and free.
You had to let go
Even though you were holding on for so long.
But there’s not a day we don’t think of you,
And how you were so strong
We just want to tell you
That you’re always in our hearts.
Even though we still cry
We know we’re not apart.
We Love You, Paw-Paw
