“Call centers” are cold calling TRICARE beneficiaries, phishing
for personal information they can use to fill and then bill TRICARE
for prescription medications, including pain and scar
creams and “metabolic capsules”.

Rabies




Rabies is a deadly and preventable virus spread to people from the saliva of
infected animals. RABIES IS NEARLY 100% FATAL IF NOT TREATED!
You can get rabies from an animal bite, scratch or when infected saliva gets
through an open wound, nose, mouth, and eyes.
If you are possibly exposed to rabies, report to the EMERGENCY ROOM to be
evaluated and treated right away.
If you are considered high risk, you may receive a series of vaccinations.
Rabies Prevention Tips
 Do not approach, feed or handle wild or stray animals.
 Do not keep pets or mascots while deployed.
 Seek medical attention immediately if bitten or exposed to animal saliva or other
body fluids.
 Report any wild or stray animals to local animal control or Military Police (onpost).
 Pets can get exposed to rabies, too. If you have pets, keep rabies vaccinations
up to date and maintain control of your pets by keeping cats indoors and keeping
dogs under direct supervision.

EMERGENCY CARE
• TRICARE defines an emergency as a serious
medical condition that the average person would consider to
be a threat to life, limb, sight, or safety.
• If you require emergency care, call 911 or go to the
nearest emergency room.
• Emergency care does not require prior authorization
(including overseas care). However, in all emergencies, you
must notify your PCM within 24 hours or on the next
business day following admission to coordinate ongoing
care and to ensure you receive proper authorization.
Fort Bragg, NC
Womack Army Medical Center
URGENT CARE
• Urgent care services* are medically necessary services required for an
illness or injury that would not result in further disability or death if not
treated immediately, but does require professional attention within 24
hours.
• If urgent treatment cannot wait until you return home to see your PCM,
you must contact your PCM for a referral or call your regional contractor
for assistance before receiving care.
• If you do not coordinate urgent care with your PCM or regional
contractor, the care will be covered under the point-of-service (POS)
option, resulting in higher out-of-pocket costs.
• If you are traveling overseas, call the TOP Regional Call Center for the
region in which you are traveling to coordinate urgent care.

Fireworks
Safety
Fort Bragg, NC
Fireworks Safety
• Fireworks are often used to mark special events and holidays.
However, they are NOT safe in the hands of consumers.
• Fireworks cause thousands of burns and eye injuries each year.
• Leave fireworks to the professionals. Enjoy the Garrison MWR
shows.
• The use of consumer fireworks on Fort Bragg is prohibited.
• NFPA is opposed to consumer use of fireworks to include sparklers
and firecrackers. Even sparklers burn hot enough to cause thirddegree burns.

Fireworks by the Numbers
(IAW NFPA)
•
In 2013, fireworks caused an estimated 17,800 reported fires, including 1,200
total structure fires, 400 vehicle fires, and 16,300 outside and other fires.
• Resulted in an estimated 8 reported civilian deaths, 40 firefighter injuries
and $32 million in direct property damage.
•
In 2013, U.S. hospital emergency rooms treated an estimated 8,700 people for
fireworks related injuries.
• 55% of 2013 emergency room fireworks-related injuries were to the
extremities and 31% were to the head.
•
The risk of fireworks injury was highest for young people ages 15-24, followed
by children under 10.
•
On Independence Day in a typical year, far more U.S. fires are reported than on
any other day, and fireworks account for 2 out of 5 of those fires, more than any
other cause of fires.
