Fort Drum Fish & Wildlife Management Program Remington Pond 19th Annual Youth Fishing Derby Results Fort Drum’s 19th Annual Youth Fishing Derby sponsored by the Directorate of Public WorksNatural Resources Branch was held at Remington Park on Saturday, May 16. A total of 91 children caught 278 fish in 3 hours and 45 minutes on an overcast, but comfortable, May day. Prizes were awarded for the top four places in three age groups for largest and most fish. Prizes were also awarded for the longest cast in one of four age groups. Prizes were donated by AAFES Post Exchange, Maurice Sporting Goods, and Mr. Erick Bush. Worms were provided by the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation. Fishing at Remington Pond is a catch-and-release only fishery, and all fish were released back into the pond after being measured. In the 6-year-old and under age group, winners of the largest fish category was Emma Thao with a 16.5” largemouth bass; Darrell Rogers took second place with a 15.1” largemouth bass; Ava Mastin caught a largemouth bass measuring 12.9” for third place; and fourth place went to Avery Gallimore with a 12.2” brown bullhead. McKinley McBride caught the most fish in this age group with 13 fish followed by Danilo Bracamonte, Zoe Holcombe, and Dominik Pimental. Page 1 of 4 Fort Drum Fish & Wildlife Management Program Remington Pond 19th Annual Youth Fishing Derby Results In the age 7-11 category, first place for the largest fish went to Kimberly Gilmore with a 12.8” brown bullhead—her consecutive winning streak since her first fishing derby in 2008 remains intact. Second place went to Alora Smith with a 12.2” brown bullhead followed by Alex Hardy with a 11.0” brown bullhead and Ainsley Williamson with a 10.3” largemouth bass. Lorelai Wilfong caught the most fish in this age group with 12 fish followed by Robert Williamson, Merrick Robison, and Devon Hoch. Lorelai Wilfong, age 7, was the winner of the most fish in the age 7-11 category with 12. (This black crappie was actually caught by her brother—the Fish & Wildlife Manager/photographer had her pose with a fish from the wrong bucket.) Kimberly Gilmore, age 10, with her winning 12.8” brown bullhead. Her shirt reads: “Move over boys - Let a Girl show you how to Fish”. Marcus Kellam won first place with a 12.2” bullhead followed by Taylor Hoch, Abriana Brown, and Kiya Smith with 11.5”, 10.9”, and 10.6” bullheads, respectively. Sierra Dodds caught the most fish in this age group as well as the entire derby with 21 fish. Jeanluca Angulo and Jonathan North each caught 12 fish followed by Wyatt Marshall with 11 fish. Marcus Kellam, age 12, with his winning 12.2” brown bullhead. Sierra Dodds, age 12, with her first place prize for most fish caught in the age 12-18 group—her 21 fish were the most caught by anyone during the derby. Casting contest winners in the age 6 and under group was Ryan Garner with a cast of 45.2 feet; Johnathan Robertson won the longest cast in the age 7-10 category at 98.6 feet; Jonathan North cast 97.8 feet for first place in the age 11-14 category, and Gage Bentley (left) had the longest cast in the age 15-18 age group as well as overall longest cast of the contest with 101.8 feet.
