FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY FOUNDATION BOARD OF TRUSTEES Janet L. Stoner was born in Oak Ridge, Tenn., in 1948. She graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science in physical education in 1970 and a Master of Science in mathematics in 1972. Before joining Texaco Inc. in 1974 as an engineer’s assistant in New Orleans, she was a classroom teacher in Virginia and Florida. While at Texaco, she was named petroleum engineer in 1977. Janet L. Stoner Donor Stewardship Trusteeship Tallahassee, Fla. She progressed through operations management with responsibilities in the Gulf of Mexico, the North Sea, Latin America and West Africa. Stoner was elected vice president of Texaco Inc. in 1997, with responsibility for worldwide human resources policies and programs. After being the first woman appointed to the Executive Committee of Texaco Inc. in 1998, she continued to serve the corporation through the Chevron-Texaco merger in 2001. After the merger, she retired to Tallahassee, where she currently lives. Stoner has reconnected with Florida State through the Arts and Sciences Council, Heritage Protocol, The Women for FSU initiative and women’s athletics. She also has served on the board of the Refuge House, an organization dedicated to the prevention of and education about domestic and sexual violence.
