President’s Message May 2015
Since the Annual meeting was just last night, and my deadline for the Clarion was
last Thursday, this will be a short President’s Message.
I want to first thank all of you who took the time to come to the annual meeting, and
all of you who couldn’t come but voted by proxy. Our community of Four Colonies will only
be as good as the “Good” we put into it.
I also want to thank those who have retired from the board: past president Dawn
Harmon and Sara Funk. Both made tremendous contributions during the short time they
served. A special thank you from all of us goes to Jim Shields who, with his wife, have lived
in Four Colonies for 38 years. During those years, Jim held every board office, plus served
on numerous committees, numerous times. Thank you, Jim!
While there will always be challenges, our Community has made great strides in the
past few years in paying off the roof loan and planning ahead for what is best for Four
Colonies. Never will we agree on every decision, or every issue. Valuing and examining
differing opinions is how we improve. The key to making Four Colonies better will be our
ability to disagree without being disagreeable. I look forward to serving as your president in
the coming year.
Daryl Roller,
President

Please have your paper bags or 18” x 36” bundles out by 7:00 am
Thank you for choosing Republic Waste & Compost Connection for your yard waste
recycling needs. We appreciate your business and look forward to a great year.
All items must be packaged in paper lawn waste bags or tied into 18’ x 36” bundles.
Route Service begins at 7:00 a.m. Please make sure all items are easily accessible
from the street.
We only pickup natural yard waste including grass, leaves, tree limbs, flower or
garden plants (without their pots), walnuts, apples, Christmas trees (6’ or less), etc. All
materials collected are taken to a licensed compost facility. This recycling facility does
not allow for ANY trash, landscape, or construction materials. If bags contain trash or
foreign material they will have to be left at the curb. Any plastic inside your bag will be
considered trash and not picked up. We do NOT collect animal waste. Please tie
brush securely with rope or twine – not wire. Mark bundles of thorns for the driver’s
safety. Christmas Trees are the only items that do not require bagging or bundling.
We will accept Christmas trees up to 6’ in length, if larger please cut in half.
Maximum item weight is 50 pounds. Do not use plastic tape on paper bags since
it is not biodegradable. Small cardboard boxes may be used provided they are no
larger than the size and weight limits. We suggest boxes for fruits, small brush, wood or
items that would easily break a bag during removal. We ask you to not use cans for your
waste.
Thank you for your business and compliance with our guidelines
If you have any questions please contact Compost Connection at 816-761-8300
or Email [email protected]

Homeowner’s Corner – May 2015
Question: Could you remind people to secure trash so it does not blow around? Homeowner
Answer: When trash pickup day is blustery, we have trash that takes to the wind. Please make sure all
trash is secure within the containers.
Question: Can I use the pool card I had last year this year? Homeowner
Answer: Yes, your pool card is good each year as long as the address related to the card is in good
standing (dues paid up and no liens on property). New homeowners can purchase a pool card from the
office for $10 after filling out the pool card form and showing proof of residency.
Pools open Saturday, May 23rd.
Question: I see some dog walkers are not picking up the poop. What to do? Homeowner
Answer: Call the City of Lenexa Animal Control Office, 913-477-7385, and lodge a complaint giving as
much information as possible (date, time, person’s name, type of animal, location, photo, etc.) so the
City can issue a citation to the dog owner. After three citations the dog owner is fined.
The City requires the person witnessing the event to report the event; it cannot be reported through the
Four Colonies office.
Another thought – confront the offender and ask if they would please pick up the dog poop as required
by the City. Perhaps if enough residents do this, offenders may be nudged into complying.
Question: Is there a policy on displaying real estate signs? Homeowner
Answer: One real estate sign can be displayed from the inside of a window. In the case of Garden
Villas where windows are not visible from the street, one sign may be attached to the fence. Directional
signs may only be displayed when there is an open house. Any signs that do not meet this policy are
removed by staff and taken to the office.
Question: What are the colored lines/marks and flags for? Homeowner
Answer: Locators have been mapping utilities lines and right-of ways as new cable lines are being
installed.
Have a question for Homeowner’s Corner? We will try to give you an answer.
