Submit resume and cover letter to [email protected] REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: The Coach will report to the High Performance Program Director of the Canadian Freestyle Ski Association. STRUCTURE AND SCOPE: The Canadian Freestyle Ski Association is the national governing body for the sport of freestyle skiing. The CFSA is governed in accordance with a policy governance model. Under this model Chief Executive Officer is responsible and accountable for all aspects of the Association’s operations. The successful applicant will be part of a 6 member coaching team for the High Performance Mogul Program of Canadian Freestyle Ski Association. This position will work primarily with Development athletes (C Group), but will have some responsibilities with World Cup athletes (A & B Groups). The Coach shall be in attendance and support the team during all training and competition activities. The Coach shall be the representative of the CFSA in a variety of settings, and as such shall conduct herself or himself in a positive and responsible manner at all times. ESSENTIAL ATTRIBUTES: The following attributes are essential for success in the position: International competitive and/or coaching experience. NCCP Comp-Dev Moguls coaching certification or equivalent. Capacity to plan, track and evaluate training programs. Strong interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal). Experience in administrative areas such as making travel arrangements; expense reporting, and submitting written program reports. ♦ A working knowledge of the CFSA’s programs and operations. ♦ The ability to use performance technology tools such as Dartfish. ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ In addition, the National Institute Team Mogul Coach must be able to work well with others and solve problems as they arise. He or she must be a motivator who develops leadership skills within others. DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES: The possession of the following qualifications will greatly enhance the performance of a Coach's duties: ♦ Formal education in the field of sport science or a related area of study. ♦ Planning and Periodization experience. ♦ The capacity to verbally communicate in both official languages of Canada. Duties: A. Planning • Under the direction of the HC and in cooperation with other HPP staff, contribute to the development of the overall Program plan. • Contribute to the selection of athletes to the HPP Moguls Team including voting, review of rankings • Provide logistical support in planning Training camps and competition participation • Independently arrange logistics for all non-WC, non-OWG, non-WC competition participation. • Under the direction of the HC and in collaboration with other HPP staff and HPP Mogul athletes, develop and evaluate individual goal setting and plans. • Contribute to the regular analysis and evaluation of the plan/program. • Participation in Sport Development projects in collaboration with CFSA and PSO staff. • Communication of Plans and Schedules to athletes as directed and or when appropriate. • Communication and coordination of athlete goals and plans with parents/guardians when appropriate or necessary. B. Course Construction • Liaise with ski area operators in planning the location and construction of training • • • venues. Deliver finished on-snow training venues for Mogul skiing, jumping and complete “competition-ready” Mogul courses. Liaise with cat drivers, ski hill operators and staff on the labor involved. Provide necessary manual labor for the building and maintenance of venues. C. Coaching – In both subordinate and independent situations, deliver training to the athletes, both on and off snow and including the following specific situations: • Ski focused training including fundamental skiing skills and competition intensity mogul skiing. • Jump focused on-snow training, both independently or subordinate to the Air Coach but always under the direction of the Air coach. • “Top-to-Bottom” focused training. • In-Season competition focused training and competition coaching • Off-snow acrobatic training water ramp and trampoline facilities, also under the direction of the Air Coach. • Dry-land training under the direction of the Strength and Condition coach including warm-ups, strength training, cardio training, stretching, etc. When the plan is for sport, to a reasonable level, participation from staff is expected. • Appropriate and timely reporting of any HPP member injury. • Contribute to and supervise under the leadership of CFSA medical staff and the S&C coach to injury management and return to activity plans for individual athletes. • Transportation of athletes when necessary. • Provide video support when necessary. D. Competition Coaching • Independently and/or under the direction of the Men or Women Head Coach, prepare the athletes for competition including strategic and tactical planning and mental preparation. • Communicate pertinent information to the athletes regarding plans, schedules, etc. • When necessary, and in collaboration with the HPP director, enter result data into team ranking document. • Compilation of individual athlete competition statistics • Represent Canada at Team Leader’s Meetings. When working independently, ensure delegation if attendance becomes impossible due to circumstances. • Transportation of athletes when necessary. • Provide video support for training and competition including all Canadian Team competition runs, top prospects and all of Nor-Am Finals and communicate/share video with other HPP staff. E. Athlete Monitoring: • On snow recording of training volume. • Maintenance of Program volume tracking file including daily updating and communication to HPP staff. • • • • F. When necessary and in collaboration with S&C and HC, Measurement of physical monitoring markers including video capture and data entry. In-season recording of other daily training statistics. Be prepared to offer athlete evaluations, reports for the purposes of team ranking, selections, discipline, critical analysis, etc. PSO Athlete assessment program implementation 2x / year. Discipline • Contribute to a positive and professional training environment • Enforce Team Policy and expectations • Carry out discipline when necessary. EXPECTATIONS: 1. Be able to take decisions and/or initiative independently when necessary but in doing so, be consistent with the overall plan and goals and principles of the program. 2. Attendance at CFSA sponsor and/or VIP functions. 3. Ensure safety and appropriate supervision of athletes and especially minors. 4. Return phone calls/emails within 48 hrs (other than agreed upon holiday time) 5. Cooperation with CFSA Media Liaison 6. Contribute when possible to the development of Coaching in Freestyle Skiing as a profession. 7. Collaborate and Cooperate with other disciplines when applicable (generally at events) to be efficient with logistics. 8. Strong and professional communication and collaboration with Ski Areas and other training, funding, etc. partners to build strong partnerships for the ongoing growth of Freestyle Skiing and improvement of our HPP. 9. Travel with and on occasion store CFSA property such as team training bikes, treatment tables, video and communication equipment, etc. 10. Keep passport current The successful candidate would be expected to be professional in all instances, and create a positive, supportive, environment within the High Performance Program and collaborate with Provincial Freestyle skiing organizations and teams.
