Combined Choirs’ Concert, 2nd March 2015
This was a marvellous concert of choral music from three
of our choirs at Mid Herts. The concert opened with the
Youth Choir processing in to three rounds by Jan
Holdstock.
This was contrasted by singing in, German, An die Musik by
Schubert and One from Chorus Line. The five boys gave a
rousing rendition of Oliver Cromwell by Benjamin Britten
complimented by the girls singing a beautiful Gerald Finzi
song. They finished with ‘Give Me Wings’ a new John Rutter
song 2014 and the famous Glen Miller standard In the Mood
completed their programme.
Junior Choir sang a lovely selection of songs with real spirit
and verve and included African and American trad songs,
Bad moon rising, The Dolphin Song by Rebecca Lawrence,
Sing with Joy by Lin March Feel the Groove by Jon Laird
ending their programme on a swinging note! The solo
opportunities were also good to hear. Well done everyone!
The Chamber Choir began with Non vos relinquam
Orphanos by Donati which they followed with a great Latin
American Salmo 150 with plenty of rhythmic drive and
vitality. Jerome Kern’s standard Smoke gets in your eyes,
and the Bobby Shaftoe were sensitively and slickly
performed and finishing with famous When you’re smiling.
There was some truly beautiful singing. The Combined
choirs sang a folk song quodlibet and raised the roof with
the gospel number Welcome Table with brilliant singing and
actions from all the audience!
Chamber Music Festival
On Saturday 9th May, Main Hall, 2.00pm, we will be having
our annual music from our centre. We hope we can get a
large audience for this event.
