SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION GUIDELINES FUNDACIÓN/COLECCIÓN JUMEX SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION FUNDACIÓN/COLECCIÓN JUMEX GUIDELINES 0102- The Fundación/Colección Jumex scholarship program works to stimulate research and production of contemporary art in Mexico. It provides financial assistance—up to a maximum of US$ 15,000—to graduate students for MA and PhD programs in visual arts, curatorial studies, art history or theory, and arts management. Scholarships can be used to cover the following expenses: Registration and tuition fees. Travel, room and board, including: AAirfare for one economy round-trip ticket per year. BLodging, preferably at a university residence hall or student housing. CFood (for the scholarship recipient only). DLocal public transportation. Books, art supplies and production materials (artwork production costs are subject to approval by Fundación/Colección Jumex). MA students will be able to renew their scholarship for up to two years; PhD students can renew their scholarship for a maximum of three years. Fundación/Colección Jumex will evaluate the applicant’s academic performance and expense report to determine the approval of their renovation request. 01- 02- 03- 040506- 07- 0809- ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Mexican citizenship or legal residence in Mexico. Applicants must present official citizenship or immigration documents. Essay describing the themes addressed by the applicant’s art practice or academic work (maximum three pages), as well as an outline of the project to be undertaken in the graduate program (goal and development details). Letter of intent outlining the applicant’s reasons for choosing a particular course of study at a particular institution (maximum one page). A description of the MA or PhD program to be undertaken. Acceptance letter from the desired institution. College transcript and list of classes taken. A minimum grade point average of 8.5 (or equivalent) is required. A copy of the applicant’s college diploma. If the diploma has not been issued by the time of application, it must have been issued by the time the candidate is awarded the funding. Résumé (maximum two pages). It must include a photograph of the applicant. Digital portfolio of previous artwork or academic work, with images in JPG format and texts in Word (documents on a thumb drive). PP. 01 2013 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION GUIDELINES FUNDACIÓN/COLECCIÓN JUMEX 10- 11- 12- 13- 14- 15- 01- 02- 03- 0405- 05- 0102- 03- General budget itemizing expenses in the currency of the country where the studies will be undertaken. A detailed budget of the financial assistance requested from Fundación/Colección Jumex (broken out from general budget). A list of the other institutions from which funding has been requested. Specify amounts requested or received, and which expenses these funds are intended to cover (append proof of funding). Information about payment plans for registration and tuition fees. The applicant must submit a timetable specifying the dates of required payments. Two letters of recommendation from university professors or professionals in the arts community who have been in contact with the applicant professionally or academically. Evidence of language proficiency. This must be the same certification accepted by the graduate program. RESTRICTIONS Applications that were previously rejected by Fundación/Colección Jumex are not eligible. Incomplete applications, those that do not follow the guidelines detailed here, or those that were not received before the deadline will not be considered. Please note that postmark dates will not be taken into account. If any documents are revealed to be false or altered, the application will be withdrawn from the competition and the applicant will not be able apply for grants or scholarships in the future. We do not accept applications submitted by e-mail or delivered in person. Applications to fund research (thesis) or to promote cultural activities will not be accepted. Given the high volume of applications we receive, we do not grant individual interviews to applicants. APPLICATION AND SUBMISSION PROCESS Register online at www.lacoleccionjumex.org. Confirm the registration number that will be sent to you via e-mail. NOTE: You must confirm your registration number to be able to submit your application. Place all requested documents in a clear plastic file folder (no ring binders please). Please include the following information in the first page: AB- 05- 06- Name and e-mail address. Registration number. Along with your binder please include a thumb drive with all the materials requested in digital format (images, videos, plans, etc.), as well as the application documents in PDF format. Please DO NOT send original documents. 07- 01- 02- After the application deadline has passed, Fundación/Colección Jumex will confirm via e-mail that the application materials are complete. EVALUATION The Fundación/Colección Jumex committee will review all applications. The committee’s decision will be final and unappealable. The committee will base their decision on the following criteria: AAcademic excellence. BProfessional experience. CConceptual soundness. PP. 02 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION GUIDELINES FUNDACIÓN/COLECCIÓN JUMEX RESULTS The registration numbers of the chosen applications will be published online at www.lacoleccionjumex.org on the date indicated in the calendar. Additionally, scholarship recipients will be notified by e-mail. 01- 02- 03- 01- 02- 03- 04- 05- 06- 07- RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT ACADEMIC Carry out the studies outlined in the application on a full-time basis. Distance learning degrees are not permitted. Progress reports that include official university documents or coursework (including essays, articles, exhibitions, etc.) that correspond to the study timetable provided in the application. In retribution for receiving the scholarship, recipients must sign a letter in which they agree to volunteer their services to Fundación/Colección Jumex in a period no longer than two years after they have completed their studies. These services will be determined by the scholarship recipient and may include hosting or teaching workshops, seminars or portfolio reviews, or performing an internship at the Fundación/Colección Jumex, among other activities. ADMINISTRATIVE Scholarship recipients must provide an official receipt or invoice (following Mexican income-tax regulations) in the applicant’s name for the funds received. If the funds are intended for the payment of registration and tuition fees, this will be arranged directly with the host college or university. Scholarship recipients must provide all documents requested by Fundación/Colección Jumex no later than thirty days after they were notified of the award. If the applicant fails to deliver the documents in a timely fashion, Fundación/Colección Jumex may take any measures it considers necessary (including funding cancelation). Scholarship recipients must sign a contract outlining the responsibilities of each party (the Fundación/Colección Jumex and the funding recipient). Scholarship recipients must acknowledge the support of the Fundación/Colección Jumex in any promotional materials (print or digital) for work associated with the funding. Grantees must submit an expense report on the date specified in the aforesaid contract. The report must include receipts. The use or mention of the logo or name of Fundación/Colección Jumex in any printed or digital materials must be submitted for approval prior to circulation. If the scholarship recipient fails to honor any of the terms outlined in the aforesaid contract, Fundación/Colección Jumex may take any measures it considers necessary (including funding cancelation).
