*OPENING HYMN
Christ the Lord Is Risen Today
Please stand when directed
Christ the Lord is risen today, Al---le-lu-ia!
All on earth with angels say: Al---le-lu-ia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Al---le-lu-ia!
Sing, ye heavens, and earth reply, Al---le-lu-ia!
Jesus lives, eternal spring, Al---le-lu-ia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Al---le-lu-ia!
Dying once, now all doth save, Al---le-lu-ia!
Where thy victory, O grave? Al---le-lu-ia!
4
Love's redeeming work is done, Al---le-lu-ia!
Suffering ended, freedom won, Al---le-lu-ia!
Death has yielded up its prize, Al---le-lu-ia!
Christ has opened Paradise, Al---le-lu-ia!
Soar we now where Christ has led, Al---le-lu-ia!
Following our exalted Head, Al---le-lu-ia!
Made like Christ, to life we rise, Al---le-lu-ia!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Al---le-lu-ia!
*PRAYER OF AFFIRMATION
Your light is the only light we need
as we travel through life's mystery.
Your word the only voice we hear,
that still small voice that leads us
to the place where we should be.
Your presence is the only company we need
as we walk this narrow road.
Your fellowship the warmth we crave
to help us on our way.
May the truth of Easter
the joy of Easter
and the blessings of Easter
be with us today and always.
Amen.

*THE EASTER GOSPEL
Mark 16:1-8
Haas
When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought
spices, so that they might go and anoint him. And very early on the first day of the week, when the
sun had risen, they went to the tomb. They had been saying to one another, “Who will roll away
the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?” When they looked up, they saw that the stone,
which was very large, had already been rolled back. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young
man, dressed in a white robe, sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. But he said to them,
“Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised;
he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is
going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you.” So they went out and
fled from the tomb, for terror and amazement had seized them; and they said nothing to anyone,
for they were afraid.
Friends, listen. God is still speaking!
Thanks be to God!

Unison: We give thanks that we have gathered together in this sacred place,

*HYMN
The Day of Resurrection
The day of resurrection! Earth, tell it out abroad;
The Passover of gladness, the Passover of God.
From death to life eternal, from earth unto the sky,
Our Christ hath brought us over with hymns of victory.
Our hearts be pure from evil, that we may see aright
The Christ who reigns eternal in resurrection light;
We listen for the teaching once heard so calm and plain
For we, too, want to follow and raise the victor strain.

Foley
Now let the heavens be joyful, let earth its song begin,
The whole world keep high triumph, and all that is therein;
Let all things seen and unseen their notes of gladness blend,
For Christ again has risen, our joy that has no end.

FAMILY PROMISE: THE NEXT STEP
Thursday Evening, April 16 at 7:00 p.m. at Temple Judea
5500 Granada Blvd, Coral Gables, FL 33146
A mother loses her job, a father is kept from working by an injury, a family is forced from their
home by fire or natural disaster. Healthcare costs soar, public transportation is underfunded,
affordable housing is almost impossible to find. These are the reasons why families now make up
40 percent of the homeless population, and why one out of every four homeless people is a child.
In response to this crisis, a national organization called Family Promise seeks to bring the faith
community together to help families regain their housing, their independence, and their dignity.
Over the past months we have been meeting to see how we could create a Family Promise affiliate
here in Miami to help keep homeless families intact as they work to get back on their feet. The
success rate for clients of Family Promise is outstanding with nearly 80 percent of clients securing
housing. It is an exciting and hope-filled project that joins with 6,500 congregations and 160,000
volunteers across the country in working toward a nation in which every family has a home, a
livelihood, and the chance to build a better future together.
Please join us on Thursday evening, April 16, at 7:00 p.m. at Temple Judea to hear more about
Family Promise and how this congregation along with the larger interfaith community of South
Florida can be engaged in this important ministry. If you have further questions, please contact
Pastor Laurie, Drew Sandbulte, or Larry Silvester who are our congregation’s liaisons to Family
Promise, during this time of development and dreaming.
