Camping Trips: Name / Location Description Dates Pine Valley: Near St. George (SW corner of Utah) about 8 hours. Directions: From St. George, Utah, go north on Highway 18 to Central. Go right on Forest Highway 35 to Pine Valley. Go left on Main Street 3 miles to the Pine Valley Recreation Area. Reservation information: Recreation.gov or telephone1-877-444-6777 The Equestrian Campground has a parking loop with facilities specifically for horses. It is located about 3/4 mile from Pine Valley Reservoir, in a ponderosa pine, pinyon, and juniper setting north of the Pine Valley Mountain Wilderness. It offers great views of the Pine Valley Mountains. There are near by trails in the Pine Valley Mountain Wilderness including: Equestrian Trail, Forsyth Canyon Trail, Browns Trail, Whipple, Pine Valley Cannal Trail, and the Santa Clara River Trail. Fishing in the Santa Clara River and in nearby Pine Valley Reservoir. Activities include horse riding, hiking, fishing, and at the reservoir. There is 1 large four-way corral, and four smaller corrals near campsites 1, 2, 3, 11, 13 and 14. Facilities 14 single campsites (up to 8 people) with picnic tables, fire pits, and tent pads 4 tent sites (up to 8 people) with picnic tables, fire pits, and tent pads Drinking water (Memorial Day-Labor Day) Vault toilets No garbage disposal, please pack it out http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/dixie/recarea/?reci d=24806 $5 vehicle entry. 6 equestrian sites. Flush toilets, showers, dump station and electricity & water at some sites. Although I have not been there, friends have told me there are numerous beautiful trails. The campsite provides a 12 x 12 foot six-rail Powder River corral that will hold up to 2 horses. There is a community corral centrally located that will hold 1 to 3 horses, and it includes water and manure receptacle. Corrals are to be cleaned before checkout About $22 per night: Generous Campsites, easily accessible, about 6 miles gravel roads. w/ fire pit, picnic table and hitching rail at each site. Water for horses at the trail head at the edge of camp. Trails are travelogue scenic & well maintained there is one very nice bridge near the trail head, some water crossings and steep sections of trail. No reservations available, so this would be a mid-week arrival date to get good sites. There are 8 equine campsites. Not recommended for a beginner trail horse although there is one easy trail. Still working on this. Past member Janet Zandersmith has land they may be available. I will contact. June 24 – July 1. Electricity & water hook-ups Grandjean: Located on the west side of the Sawtooths off of Hwy 21. Approximately a 3 hour drive from Boise. Part of the National Sawtooth Recreation Area. Boulder Park Campground The Boulder Park Campground is suitable for pack and riding stock users with a loading ramp, 'star' bunk feeders for 6-8 head, and trailer parking. Stock water is available from Eagle Creek. The campground is set near the Main Eagle Trailhead which offers an extensive system of trails going into the Eagle Cap Wilderness. Campers without stock are welcome but may prefer Two Color Campground located three miles down the road. All visitors to the Eagle Cap Wilderness must obtain a Wilderness Visitor Permit before entering the area. Only one permit is required per group and there is no fee for the permits. Registration and Permit boxes are located at each trailhead near the information board. The permits are self-issued. Weather: described as lovely Indian Summer. 30s @ night and high 60s in the daytime. All reserved sites are already claimed. If you want to be on an alternate list in case someone can’t got, let Anne Martin know. Cost $134 for the campsite for 6 nights. Average $400-500 for gas round trip. Put on by the NW Endurance Riders. Check with Phil Carroll for report on past rides for $ and amenities. We had a great overnighter last summer; We’ll try to repeat that this year. Need to coordinate with Bogus Basin and Susan Browning; Bogus guide extraordinaire. Juniper Mountain Outfitters has 2 weeks open camp. Reservations can be made for tents: large 4 persons, with cots, pads and wood stove. Large communal cook tent. Trail Guides available. Directions: From Baker City, Oregon head north on Interstate 84 for 5 miles to exit 298; Turn right off Interstate 84 to State 203 Highway and travel 18 miles to Medical Springs, Oregon; In Medical Springs turn right on Big Creek Road and go 1.5 miles to Forest Road 67; Turn left on Forest Road 67 and go about 14 miles to Forest Road 77; Turn left on Forest Road 77 and go 0.5 miles to Forest Road 7755; Turn right onto FSR 7755 to go up Eagle Creek; The campground is about 3.5 miles up Forest Road 7755. No fee or pass is required to use the campground. General rules of use and restrictions apply for this developed recreation site. Motorized vehicles, bicycles, carts, hang glider and other mechanical equipment is prohibited in the Wilderness area. Nehalem Bay: Oregon coast near Manzanita: 9 + hour drive Old Salam: Near Centerville, ID Just north of Idaho City. Bogus Basin: Stolle Meadows / Warm Lake: Juniper Mountain Outfitters: tents $20 per night, sleeps 4 w/ padded cot, wood stove w/ wood provided. Use of cook tent and grounds. No running water or electricity. No cell service. Have your own rig? Get pre-approval and Pay $15? Limited room for only a few trailers and requires pre-approval. Or we can move down the road and do our own thing. JMO guides are awesome and know the area extremely well.
