The focus is fun and friendship with two easy miles geared toward conversation and getting to know one another. We will ramp up your cardio with heart pumping beats and drum sticks, strengthen your core, and soothe your soul with a bit of yoga movement to finish. Everyone is welcome! Spend 45 minutes on your mat getting your body, mind and breath ready for race day. Come prepared with your yoga mat and clothes that allow you to move freely. Amy is running the Gazelle Girl Half Marathon for the first time this year. “This run is special to me because two years ago I was told after ankle and calf surgery that I would “never run again”. Race packets are also available on Sunday starting at 6 am at Calder Plaza. To pick up your packet, you must show a picture ID. If you are picking up for another person, you must know their name, date of birth, and confirmation number. VIP Packet Pick-Up If you have purchased a VIP Tent pass, look for the VIP sign for expedited packet pick-up. Can I Register for the race at the Expotique? Yes, we accept cash or check only. There is no guarantee that a shirt will be available. Half Marathon: $95 5k : $35 Can I still transfer to the 5k if I am registered for the half marathon at the Expotique? Yes, you will need to pick up your half marathon bib and then head to the 5k late registration line so you can get transferred properly in the system. You will receive a new 5k bib and shirt. You will forfeit your finisher charm when you switch to the 5k, but will receive the 5k lapel pin. Terryberry is proud to be the official Charm Sponsor of the Gazelle Girl Half Marathon and 5k for the third year. Terryberry will offer custom engraving for charms at a cost of $10. We will have labels (for the pre-addressed charm packages) available at the Terryberry booth at the Expotique. Payment can be made with MC, Visa, or cash. The women who choose to pre-pay for engraving will still need to drop off their charm at the Terryberry booth post-race. We will have their pre-addressed, paid, charm envelope ready for them to put their charm in for engraving. Terryberry will offer custom engravings on race day. The Rejuvenation Station is located inside the main tent for participants. Area massage therapists will be ready to help your muscles recover on race day! 10:30 am: Awards Ceremony Where should I line up to get ready for the start? Half Marathon runners should line up according to pace, with the fastest runners in the front and the walkers at the back. Please look for the pace signs to help you figure out where you should line up. If you are walking the half marathon, please line up at the end of the line of runners. Half Marathon: When lining up please look for and line up near the pacer that matches your pace. They will be holding bright green signs. You do not have to run with a pace group, but lining up by projected pace helps make for a smooth start! Walkers should line up at the very back of the line. 5k Runners should line up AFTER the half marathon runners have all crossed the starting line. 5k runners should not line up with the half marathon runners. The 5k will start at 8:20am. 5k: There will not be pace groups, but runners should line up with the fastest runners at the front, and the walkers at the back. Strollers MUST line up after the walkers. Walkers should line up at the very back of the line. Please note no strollers will be allowed on the half marathon course. TIPS: Prepare the night before! Lay out what you want to wear, pack your bag and be ready to go. Make sure you have everything, especially your bib, before you leave your vehicle after parking. You can gear check a small bag. If the forecast looks like rain, a dry change of clothes or a towel can be nice to have. Think comfort! Your gear check number is on your bib. You can tear this off and we’ll attach it to your bag. Clothes discarded during the run will be picked up and donated to charity. Please plan to drop them within the first mile or at an aid station. Remember, nothing new on race day! Wear clothes/shoes/socks you’ve worn before. Eat similarly to your training runs. HAVE FUN! Today is a celebration! Get social! There is a fleet of them on Calder Plaza. Additionally, there will be two port-a-johns at each aid station and a whole fleet of them at the start and finish line. How about coffee? Direct Trade Coffee Club will be selling coffee on race morning! They provide single origin coffee directly from Guatemala. All coffee is roasted in Grand Rapids. Coffee is $2, with $1 being donated back to our charity partners! Will the race be cancelled because of weather? If it’s just rain, the race goes on! You’ll see colored flags at our aid stations to alert you about weather conditions. Flags change color if weather heightens risk to the race (high winds, lightening/storms). If you see black flags, the race is cancelled. Sole Sisters is a group of women runners seeking to enrich the lives of women in transition through running and being active. Sole Sisters encourages everyone to bring one piece of clothing to “toss” at the start/finish line or at one of the aid stations. There will be two plastic barrels on each side of the road near the start and will be labelled with a Sole Sisters logo decal. Additionally, there will be two barrels just before the mile 1 marker on the left side of the road with signs leading up to the barrels letting the runners know that the clothing drop zone is coming up. By providing athletic gear to the YWCA, Sole Sisters hope to increase the comfort level of women new to exercise, encouraging them to make physical activity part of their life. If I toss my shirt, gloves, etc. will I be able to claim them? No, anything left on the course will be donated to charity. See above. Is the course iPod friendly? Safety is our number one concern, while you are welcome to wear an iPod or MP3 player we recommend that you only use one earbud and be alert to your surroundings. What if I get hurt during the race? Will somone be taking photos? Please check the race map for aid station locations. Water will be available at all aid stations. GU and GU Brew (an electorlyte beverage) will be available at select stations. Metro Health and LifeEMS are 100% focused on YOUR well-being. Stellafly will be taking photos throughout race day. Race and general expo photos will be available on the Stellafly and Team Stellafly Facebook pages. We are a Zero Waste event - please do your part! Please remember that the Gazelle Girl Half Marathon is striving to be a zero waste event. We don’t have any trash cans today so if you ‘bring it in, please take it out!’ Be on the look out for our waste stations that have compost and recycling bins. Any food, paper, plastic, or cardboard waste can be put here. Everything you receive from the race today is compostable or recyclable. In fact, around 80% of the items you throw away on a daily basis can be composted or recycled. Race Day! Race Day! After Take time to CELEBRATE your accomplishment! Immediately when you cross the finish line, runners in the half marathon will receive a sterling silver charm. 5k runners will receive a lapel pin. Note: runners MUST show their bib to receive the finisher prize. If the correct bib is not displayed runners will not receive their prize. Once you have your bling, you will reach a table of bottled water. Oranges, apples, bananas and bagels will be available for all runners. SpartanNash has donated nearly 5,000 pounds of food!
